Pic Request: Performance Muffler On Max
Pic Request: Performance Muffler On Max
Hey I am going to purchase a aftermarket muffler this week. I am new to the Maxima and haven't seen to many with perf. mufflers. I dont know whether to get a clean DTM style, Or N1, Or Fireball, Or Regular style muffler with nice tip ( not stock with tip, but oval with tip, performace).
So any pics will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ray

Performance wise, you won't see much (if any) gains with just a muffler. You will however, get a lot of noise increase
I recommend Magnaflow mufflers though. Good quality, and nice tone. No pics of my Magnaflow though

Lots of people seem to recomend the magnaflow mufflers. I am going to pick up the Magnaflow 14829

Go with the magnaflow muffler. It sounds good and looks good. It's not a ricey sound at all. Take a look at mine. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/444291

I have a magnaflow on my 4th gen and it sounds good, it will even sound better when I fix the heat shield rattle. I have heard that magnaflow is a heavy muffler though, dont know if that matters.
I have a dynomax on my 3rd gen, it is a bit loud, but I like the stockish look. I picked it up for about $100 installed at a muffler shop with the nice tip...

I got the chance to hear a greddy on a 4th gen this weekend, he was using two resonators and I must say I am in love with that VERY quiet deep note.
Thanks for the input, some of you.
I hate people who jump to conclusions..."why waster money on a muffler when you can buy a Ypipe". I live in Canada, I dont know how much the Ypipe is but im sure its more than a muffler.
Yes I will get piping also when it gets put on...I was thinking 2.5inch straight through with no cat and just a resonator but im not sure..
Any input on custom piping ?

If you get a magnaflow muffler (or any straight-thru muffler) and the piping you mentioned, it is gonna be soooooooo loud. Everytime people ask about magnaflow mufflers I tell them: it sounds really nice, but is really loud. I have a 14" resonator (connected to a 2.5" WSP b-pipe) and an OEM cat and it is still too loud for my tastes. You're not gonna lose a noticeable amount of HP if you add a resonator, and the drone gets really annoying without a good one.
Hey Clean_92, I got in on the Warpseed group deal, It cost me $180us shipped.(about $220Can.) Their regular price is $175 0r $200, depending on which pipe you want. Dallas quoted me $22 ground or $30 air to Ontario. Basically you are looking at $275-$300 Can. Still not that bad.
I used to have a N/A 88 Rx7 with 2 N1 Mufflers and straight piped exhuast ( no cats, resonators) so I am used to loud exhuast.
Right now i have a stock cat and resonator ( Unless it is not stock i dont know ) so i was thinking of taking the resonator out and going 2.5in from cat back.

That one Y-pipe will add as much or more power as the entire exhaust on that RX-7.
Forget the muffler for now and go with the Y. Or at least get both at the same time, and pretend you got gains from the muffler

The remus exhaust gives the max a real throaty, DEEP, M3 kind of sound. I feel with a car as powerful and big as the max, you wanna stay away from a exhaust thats gonna make the car sound like a ricey CIVIC DX. Performance wise, i realized the increase in power toward the top of the power band. You can feel those ponies workking hard in 3rd gear!

Spipedong had his cat back before he got the y-pipe, so his advice is useful. The y-pipe definitely has the biggest gains for the exhaust. If you look at a stock y vs. a warspeed you will see why. I put on a y-pipe and noticed considerable difference and the rest of my exhaust is still stock (but looks new).
I haven't decided on a cat-back yet, but I will probably get a magnaflow with dual tips (like Mizeree_X) and a good resonator.

I would like to try a y split after the cat, then 2 of these:

then stright pipe to the rear with some pipe tips.
