getting a new alarm for my Max before I get a system because my school's pretty ghetto. WAS looking at Viper but with the options I want it would be about $300. I want:

remote entry
starter disable
alarm goes off if trunk opens
glass broken alarm goes off

they had Black Widow one at best buy with all these features except for glass which I forgot to ask about for $150 including installation. Anyone had alarm put on, things I should make sure it has? Can they wire so I can use remote and the keypad to open?

If you want glass sensor, you should go with the Clifford 6000. That's the cheapest Clifford that comes with a glass sensor. You should be able to get that around 300. If not, bargain. What city you from? If you're in the LA area, I might be able to hook you up.

clifford 6000 comes with the glass sensor, piezo sensor (shock sensor), door trigger, trunk trigger, optional hood trigger. I believe it was 2 extra channels for you to add modules such as trunk release and engine start or window roll up/down. I think that's about it.

if you have the GXE,

You've already got 3 of those 4 options stock. All 3rd generation Maximas have a built in alarm. The GXE has the remote entry via the keypad. The SE's don't have that feature but do have the alarm. I'd save the money for "go fast" mods.

yeah, but the factory alarm sucks. it didnt work at all the 4 times my car's been broken into and vandalized. it's supposed to go off when the door is unlocked without using the key. all four times the thiefs busted my window and unlocked the door from the inside. no alarm. but then the alarm just goes off all the time for no reason. it doesnt go off when it needs to, but does when it doesnt need to.

stock alarm

no way I am leaving on the max stock alarm...I tested it by rolling down windows then locking doors wit keypad. Then i unlocked by pulling up the lock thing then I opend the door...NOTHING happened. Thats not a very good SECURITY system IMHO.

PJ

ps-not in LA area, and no cliffords sold around here. $300 is more than i wnated to spend, and for that much i could get viper! Thanks anyways.

Re: stock alarm

did you wait for the security light to go off? You have to wait 30 seconds or so before it will work.

yeha wait 30 seconds. I thought that about my car but you have to give it time. I own a 1988 Nissan Maxima GXE. I was also thinking about putting in an extra alarm but for now my pioneer Premier headunit works as my second deterent , if you dont have the face of the headunit on in the seconds set then this real annoying loud *** high pitch sound comes from your speakers hurting the thefts ears and detering him a way. I have mine set at five sec it starts as soon as the door light comes on or when one of the doors open. You can set the volume of it also. I have it on the highest set. Believe me this really kills your ears.It feels like something is peircing your ear drums its so annoying. I have to hurry all the time to get in my car so it wont go off.

30 seconds? hmm I'll have to try that... its a littl elate now and I dont wanna wake up any neighbors! Do you guys know if the stock alarm goes off if trunk is broken into? What about glass shattered? Is there an engine disabler so it cant be hot wired or anythign like that?

Re: stock alarm

The stock alarm does everything you mention except the glass shattering. You have to wait for the security light to go off before trying the "door trick." The security light will flash until you close the circuit (close the hood, trunk, or doors with them locked). After you close the circuit, the security light will remain steadily on. After it goes off, then the alarm is set. The only way to disable the alarm is to stick the key in one of the two doors or the trunk. The starter will be disabled and sticking it in the ignition will not help. So be ready!

alarm

i think I'll prolly just spend the money on dark tint and PIAA foglight locks instead! Theives prolly deterred by seeing the keypad on outside anyways, and with my stereo I'll definitley remove the face. Anyone in MD know the darkest tint can be?

thanks,
PJ

Legal tint

In Maryland the darkest legal tint on the front windows is 35%. That is really not dark at all. some of my friends have it on their car and it barely looks tinted. 20% is the way to go. Ive had it on my car for two years and not been bothered. I guess it all depends on where in MD you live. Some places might not tint illegally but I know a lot will, and they will just throw the receipts away. I believe that all of the back windows can be as dark as you want. I'm not for sure about that though.
