Maxima's odometer dead. Any advice?

Hello all; My 90 Maxima's odometer and trip meter have suddenly quit working at 91K miles and now I am wondering what to do. The speedometer and tachometer work fine. So does the cruise control. I know that the odometer is electrically operated with no drive cable. I removed the cluster and see where the odometer portion of the cluster is driven by what appears to be a motor that plugs into the speedo board. Could it be my motor is dead, and can I simply replace the motor from another donor cluster that is working? I really dont want to screw up my current mileage reading by delaying repair (I have parked it since it quit working with only about 25 miles difference in reading). I read a lot about this being a common failure, but nothing about a fix. I am definately NOT taking it to a shop for a rip-off $400 dollar repair job. Not when I can put a $30 used one in if I have to. Anyone had to fix their's before? Thanks!

Hmmm....I just got the same problem, and I couldn't even locate the system in my Maxima shop manual. I can hear a faint tic...tick...tick when I am driving, and I assumed it was a broken cable. Are you sure it is electric? Did you figure it out?

Well taking out/putting in the odometer is not hard at all...I'm guessing your best bet would be to find another odometer very close to your mileage now, then roll it back 1/10th of a mile at a time, might take a while but you'll know your mileage. Try to make sure its close to yours now because It takes a while! I have the odometer out of the SE gauges I put in, but it's at 108k,
