I replaced my cupholders with some Saab ones. They go in the bottom half of the double-din slot in the dash.

After:

The old cupholders, removed:

Where did you get the saab cup holders from? and what are they off of? It is getting annoying not being able to drive and drink my coffee at the same time.

I got them off Ebay. Just go to Ebay motors and search for "saab cupholder" and you should find a few auctions. I paid ~$25 shipped for them.

I'm pretty sure those cupholders also can be found in the late 80's, early 90's ford tauris/mercury sable

Stock cupholders suck. I had to put this space to good use.

Haha! Hey, it works! They might not look as cool as a MT shifter, but my car in general would look cool as it's passing your car.

I bought a taurus cup holder which I've also heard works (looks almost exactly like the saab one) but then I bought a set of EQ's that are going to go in my second din slot so I've got no use for the cupholder. If anyone is interested I'll let it go for $20 shipped. E-mail me at joojoo2915@yahoo.com

Nope. Look closely and you'll see it's one piece that goes around all the gauges AND around the CD player. So it's the size of 2 dins. I custom made it with a 2" hole saw bit and dremel tool. I went to an audio shop and the guy hooked me up with a square foot of 1/8" thick ABS plastic. Then I did LOTS of careful measureing and trimming and this sucker fits perfectly.

That's how I made my ashtray switch panel too. Same material.

I'm picking up my Mercury Sable cupholders form the junkyard today. Installation should be a breeze.
No more hot coffee spilling on my lap while I'm driving!!!

The 2nd gen((?), the one that ran till 1995) Taurus/Sable had them. Now my '92 Max has them. It rocks. However, after seeing Aaron's gauges, I'm green with jealousy.

Ok since they are so universal and the saab, Ford, Mercury ones seem to work better, Im venturing towards those. Gotta find a junk yard that has them though. Hopefully they will fit in my 2nd gen maxima. I have the double din opening so it should work. I have the factory equalizer that hasnt been used since who knows how long ago.

I have a screwdriver in the car all the time, sits right between the seat and console, and takes up just enogh room to firmly hold my coffee between it and the e-brake! Ghetto mods rule!
