I have the timing belt exposed for replacement. Does someone know how the idler pulley is supposed to be untensioned to remove the timing belt? There is a spring behind the idler pulley and a bolt running through the top center of the idler pulley. Which if either do I need to remove.

On a related note, does anyone have a shop manual for sale for the 1993 Maxima?

I would suggest you get a shop manual before you continue. the belt MUST be put back on a certain way or you can ruin your engine. (read: interference engine. incorrect installation of belt means valves smack top of piston= dead engine= $$$$$)

Even they haynes and Shilton manuals have timing belt procedured in them. maybe someone will be gacious enough to scan the pages you need for now. I don't have any manual or I'd do it for ya.

Also try going to your local library.. my local (small town) library had one for my old Mitsu truck, and I coped about 60 pages out of it one time. complete engine/tranny rebuild instructions for $3.00.
