Spark plug gap
Spark plug gap
What is the gap supposed to be for NGK platinums for a 92 SE? I checked it before I changed them out (0.040), but I have only a 91 FSM and Haynes so I wasn't sure if they were gapped correctly. Please help so that I can change it if necessary.

Thats not correct, the proper gap is .039 The allowed range is .039 to .044, The original NGK plugs will come with the proper gapping, but all aftermarket stuff needs to be gapped down to .039
You should realize that the gap increases over time, and to put in a plug thats already at the end of the allowed range will lead to missfires and poorer burning of the fuel, which will have some impact on fuel economy and power.
Proper gap for a new plug: .039" (or .038" )
