worn Wheel Stud ????
worn Wheel Stud ????
Looks like I have worn out Wheel STUD (hub bolt)... on my front right wheel.
I not able tighten Lug nut properly. I saw the threads is torn. I am scared to drive in this state.
Is it safe to drive ??
I am planning to have a mechanic replace wheel stud. Any body know how big of a deal this is...?
Does they have remove brake caliper ..all the way to hub ?
Or they can tap it with out removing the hub..?
Thanks for inputs

Is is just one of the wheel studs that is worn? Then you still have four lug nuts holding your wheel and that is good enough to drive around for a while. If I recall correctly the mechanic will have to remove the caliper to replace the hub but don't quote me on that.
is this regarding to the rear or the front wheels?
cuz with the rear wheels you have to remove the hub to services the studs. However, if this is regarding to the front wheels. Damn...I can't remembered but I think you could get away without removing the hub. All you have to do is depressurize the brake caliper with a c-clamp, unscrew the 4 bolts and hang it somewhere. Looking from where the brake caliper used to located, you might be able to reach to the stud, just spin it til you see it. My memory is weak since last time I messed around with this part for some other task. I can't garantee you could do it but it's worth the effort cuz it's mad easy if you can. If you could see the stud and reach from the caliper position, just grab some long as socket and a c clamp press the old stud out and pop a new one on. Voila, home run!
