My day at the junkyard (pics)

My friend Jesse and I takin the hood off for easy access..

As it sat after getting the hood and intake crap off..

The rear of crossmember wasnt even bolted up.. the front of the crossmember was all that was holding the engine up. No wonder the engine was leaning so much..

Jesse gettin the monstrosity of an engine hoist ready to go while I get the y-pipe off...

My brother Jonathan in the process of cutting out the radiator support for more room lol..

Last pic I got at the yard before the cam went dead. It kinda sucks cuz I really wanted to get some pics when we were hoisting the engine out =\

Puttin my biatches to work...

And now it sits in my very very messy garage waiting to be tinkered with...

All in all I must say the hardest part was getting the stupid hoist up to the front of the yard (which was literally like half a mile or so away) with the engine and tranny dangling in the air. That thing did NOT want to roll over the rocks and uneven crap ground that is the whole yard. It took us FOREVER to get it up to the front. Charles came up with the truck when we were about finished and they wouldnt even let him into the yard since they were closing. It would have been much simpler if they would've let him just drive his truck in the yard and let us load it up there. Oh well..

Best of all I got it all for $250.. The tranny has a leak.. the engine is pretty dirty.. but it's alllll good because the price was right and it's all gonna get rebuilt anyway!

Lastly, no making fun of my pink shoelaces lol

wow! what a day u must have had. I wish we had junkyards out here that had used VE's.
Doesn't it make you guys sad to see a junked maxima in a junkyard? Seeing that poor maxima being torn apart makes me want to go out and drive mine for a while.

seems like a fun lil day

i haven't been to the junkyard in forever because they were @ssholes to my friends last time i went even though i've been to that particular one a dozen times. i could spend all day in there if they let me.

goodluck with the install and fixing everything up!

Nice find, man.

I need to get to Portland and see what I can find. I haven't been out there in years.

Yeah, last time I was at the junkyard I was looking for a front bumper cover because mine's trasher, and the best one we found had a couple gashes in it, so my dad and I were gonna try to fill it with flexable primer. The next day we went out there to find an 89-91 se with a perfect body, including bumper, so it was another couple hours at the junkyard for us.

This is the first and only VE I've ever seen at the junkyards here.. and we go quite regularly gettin Honda stuff for my brother/friends. I wasnt even looking for an engine or anything.. I was just going to try to find an upper strut nut that I need becuase they have a few GXE's there. I about wet myself when I walked upon a pretty much complete VE 5spd.. got inside the car and ran the transmission through all the gears and it was really smooth..

Plus I knew how good the prices at this place were... $75 for all manual transmissions.. $180 for all complete long blocks... then they even knocked a few bucks off at the front because they were for some reason "impressed that we could even get the engine and tranny out" makin fun of us like crazy

I also made away with tons of extra goodies

Nothin at all.. my car is fine. I've always wanted a spare VE though to rebuild (not stock)/play with and I ran across this and thought hmm... pay $250 now for my project VE/tranny or pay 2 grand down the line.. wasnt a tough choice. I knew my chances of finding a VE AND tranny at the junkyard ever again werent good and figured I'd jump on this while it was right under my nose

When I finish with this engine/tranny I'll just drop it in my car so that I dont have to have any down time..

Then I might sell the extra VE.. and keep the extra transmission just in case I turn one into ground beef or something

It's funny, I always imagine the people on here, and most of the better known ones, James, Matt93SE, Red92SE, always come off to me as older guys who hate kids who play their music too loud. And then I'll see a pic of one of you and it'll be the exact opposite of what I think...We should have to have a pic of ourselves in our sig or something lol

That's pretty funny...

I have an Eclipse DVC 12" sub in my trunk, so the loud music complaints are for me, not by me...

If you look on my cardomain, there is a picture of me with my family on there somewhere.

The first time I met a lot of guys in person from the Northwest (MrGone, Spipedong, Anton, LittlePiggie, aw89SE are the 3rd gens I have met in person) it was pretty cool to see what everyone was like.

Of course, this will probably never happen, but having a national Maxima.org meet would be a blast. I remember the looks we got driving in Portland, Oregon with about 10 maximas. I couldn't imagine the disbelief at seeing like a couple of hundred in one place or driving around in one big caravan.

Sorry about the OT James, just rambling like I tend to do...

So being 45 isn't cool ??

Good find James, I wonder what kind of condition the motor and tranny are in. I just ordered a VE 5 spd with 34,000 miles and it was $730 shipped. You got a great deal

Just curious, where did you order it from and how can you be sure of the miles on it?

I can only take their word for it, They told me that it's a JDM tranny. They do seem pretty reputable and they were very professional. It wasn't like calling some po-dunk salvage yard where they hardly speak english or anything. I guess I figure that there was no way for me to verify the miles on any tranny that I bought, aside from a new or rebuilt one.

Which junkyard did you go to James, and how many maximas were there? I want to go and see if I can find a passenger side mirror or maybe even a front bumper cover.
