Should the ECU record a code when a relay is bad?

Should the ECU record a code when a relay is bad?
Hi, I have a 92 GXE with 130K on it. I am trying to diagnose an elusive starting problem. If the EGI relay or Engine Cont relay is bad should the ECU record a code? I am just wondering if it is worth paying to have the ecu read.

proboly not

there is a code for a malfunctioning ECU but chances are it wont throw it
