The Thing in the trunk (GXE)

I remember reading about this black piece of metal bolted to the body right behind the back seat, i had to remove my back seat to unlock the trunk (i only have the valet key) so i removed it while i was back there.

Now what did everyone say this was for? and did you remove it?

I took it out today...

My "thing in the trunk" that is...
As stated in earlier posts, it's pretty heavy, but wasn't bolted in very tightly, and sadly mine didn't have any wires connected to it, so I guess mine was really useless. I guess if anyone wants it PM me, if you were one of those unlucky ones that missed out on having a "thing in the trunk," take this oppurtunity...otherwise I'm gonna call up the art museum and see if they need something for there abstract display...

I just weighed it, scale says its around 17-18 lbs, but im guessing at least 22 or so. Also, the cylinder part in the middle looks like it can spin, but it doesn't...I'm gonna try to take off the bolts on the sides and disect it.

if i remember correctly it is on rubber bushings or the center of the metal piece is rubber. i know that either way i could make it spin just a little (kind of like how a motor mount is).

40lb for speakers and amps?
both of my subs alone weigh that much! throw in my 5 amps, capacitor, distribution blocks, cabling, mounting equipment, etc.. I'm at about 120lb...
that's okay, it's all easily removeable in a few minutes for when I go to the track.

What happened to the screws that held it on? I heard that if you aren't careful, they would fall down into the gas tank?

ONTO the gas tank, not INTO.

if he wants to let his trunk get full of water splasned in from the rain, that's his problem.

No rain in So Cal, well not frequently, but either way, I wish at the time i was building my box set up that i knew that the thing was worthless. I ended up having to build around it:

I was only guessing. And all I have is 2 12" subs in a sealed box with one amp. And how is your box mounted? I have been trying to find a good way to mount my box because every time I open my trunk the box is all over the place.

So they arent studs?

You could always just put the nuts on the bolts then cut them (normally when you cut threw a nut with a bolt threw it, it has a tendancy to lock it into place, esp. if its torqued down). You could be hardcore and safety wire them together so they will never go anywhere

or just lay some duct tape over the holes or something
