A 20lb counterweight seems pretty worthless if u have atleast a 1/4 tank of gas i could see it maybe keeping the rear planted alittle if ur on empty but cant make that much of a diff. and why was it only on some max's and not others? Kinda on the same topic did anyone have any problems with there rear springs creaking after changing there struts the creek when i pull away from lights or stop signs its only for a split sec but its just a creek any ideas as to how i can get it to stop or is it jus cuz the new struts arent worn in yet?

How many hundred times do we have to say this? IT'S NOT SIMPLY A WEIGHT- IT'S THERE TO REDUCE ROAD NOISE. The reason why it's only in the GXE is because the designers were willing to sacrifice a bit of road noise in exchange for weight savings on the SE.

if you are talking about the cylinder in the trunk...i removed it already...well from my 90....havent even looked at the 89 yet...too many other things that are of higher priority...but if you are talking about the wheel well...i rather have a spare tire then saving a few pounds...but next summer i will be removing it from my 90...which is when i will start my turbo project

really?
its only in the 3rd gens with auto trannies from what i have seen. i heard it was to counter the slightly heavier front end because of the slightly heavier auto tranny.

I've heard both ways on them being in the auto. some SE autos had them, some didn't. dunno there. that extra 20lb in the back certainly doesn't make up for the extra 100+lb up front though!

IIRC - you have to remove the backseat to access 2 of the bolts...the other 2 are accessible from the trunk

you dont have to remove your back seat, just the lining the back of the trunk. you can access all of the bolts from there, and mine weren't very tight so just like one rotation of your wrench and you'll be able to do it with your fingers.
