too much damn speculation on this car....someone really needs to just go and buy it from him and put all speculation to rest. I'd buy it but I have a broke 240sx in my garage that needs fixed. to whoever buys it (if anyone does)

if the front end is higher it is due to the engine being quite a bit lighter than the vg. i think the vq's weigh something like 100 lbs. less than the vg and/or ve.

Ok, I just talked to the guy, Maxima_Mike and I are going to see it on sunday, I will bring my camera and test drive this baby and compare it to my 5spd and to Maxima_Mike's auto. We both have SE's so it should be a little quicker than the 94 SE auto. Oh and im going to try to take a pic of the motor mounts.

fill your cameras memory card
If you need a host I can do it without a problem

Also if you dont mind, could you ask what all he swapped? I am confident that he swapped steering racks, but could you try and verify that? pics would be cool nice aswell

Thanks guys! Have fun.
Also try not to get his hopes up, he is trying to sell it after all. That is, unless your semi interested in buying it

I'm guessing this swap happened at a bodyshop.
they probably were given a totalled VQ car so they just swapped everything in.
that would explain why so much "donor" stuff was used.

yeah, but there must have been more than one donor car. The engine and the steering wheel came out of different cars. Neither of which are cheap.

If the struts and stuff are out of a 4th gen, then he needed to have 3 donor cars.

VIN check...

This thing has me so intrigued, I coughed up the $4.99 US (almost $7 for me!!) and did the history thing on the VIN. Doesn't show much, though. Anyone know if the engine serial number can be checked the same way? It would be interesting to know what happened to the car the motor came from.

Jeff's edit:

1) I opened back up. What do you want?
2) In no way could you have determined if it was legit. So at that time it was just another stupid ebay auction. Hell we still don't know for sure yet.

Were you "right" or "rite"??

Look at the doors really closely. They even swapped in the 4th Gen. window switches. And since when did the 3rd Gens come with speakers in the rear doors?

rather insignifcant post regarding the engine swap... but anyways:

somebody mentioned a non-3rd gen hazard switch. i think it is a 3rd gen switch, just relocated, and turned horizontally instead of vertically.

a couple more oddities: check ou the ebay pic of the rear seats. in the rear door, you can see a large cutout for what i assume use to be a 5.25 or 6.5 speaker.

in that same pic, check out the driver door. seems like there used to be a tweeter mounted in the door on the right. but look a little to the left.. a second tweeter? who knows..

this whole thing is just soooo weird. i wonder if the shop he bought this from sold the car to him in such sh1tty condition, or if the seller managed to beat up on the poor car himself during the time he owned it.

yeah, it is the 3rd gen switch just relocated

as for the driver's door, I believe the second hole (further to the left in that pic) is just the upper part where the door pull handle mounts

like someone said, it has different window and lock controls on the passenger door (maybe that's why only 3 windows are working)

also, the climate control is from a different car too - not sure exactly which though

it says no ebrake in the listing and you can see the handle is up way too high in the pics. I wonder if he did something on the back end too

That car is really pieced together. It'd be interesting to see it in person and find out everything that has been done

Engine pics? There's engine pics galore. If you can visit the guy, take a digicam and take pics of the engine mounts, steering assembly and anything else you can think of. The more the better

good point craig..

it seems as though all of the electronics are non-3rd gen, which further indicates that a different wiring harness was used throughout.

yea, and no engine pics? don't be lazy, please read the entire thread before posting a knucklehead comment.

It's funny how the guy doesn't realize the rarity of the car. The org must get its hands on this thing for research. If it falls into the wrong hands of a ricer, we're doomed!

Note: Either you can't see or they didn't use the VQ front engine mount.

if this is photoshopped, someone did a damn good job of covering all their bases as far as things that would give away it being a chop.

new find!!! They DEFINITELY used 5th gen struts. check the mounts in both pics out.

This is no more a simple motor swap...this looks like something out of fbi case files. Classic chop-shop scenario/ project where they piece multiple cars to make one. If they can show proof that all big ticket parts were acquired legitimately, then by all means, go for it...but the fact that the last reading was in november means it's legit...now I'M confused too many different vehicle parts from other models on it..... i don't think this qualifies as a possibility for 3rd geners to participate in due to the frankenstein nature....

This looks fairly legit. I really think the guy just doesn't know what he has. He probably thinks it's like swapping an H22A into a 90 Accord or something. If no one tells him about .org (especially this thread) and no one tells him how intriguing his car is, it probably will be had for cheap by an .org member.

Too bad we weren't more centralized and organized, or we could all pitch in like $25-$50 and buy it for R & D.

Too late bro HE IS NOW A OFFICAL ORG MEMBER. This is getting fun now

5th gens draw the air in threw some ducting that goes up over the radiator. It goes between the battery and engine, not battery and fender like 3rd gens

ummm...

he says it's a 2000 Maxima engine, so why did he put an Infiniti engine cover on it?

it could be a 227 bhp Infiniti Motor...

but if the car needed this much work maybe it was in a wreck?

I think it is going to go for less than $2k, that is a steal, I bet he paid that much for the engine/tranny/gauges/suspension all to be swapped.

4th gen strut mounts = 5th gen strut mounts? not sure if they do. notice I said DEFINITELY and 5th gen

Don, I don't think he had anything to do with the swap hence his not knowing the true value of the vehicle. IIRC he got it from someone else. That's the person that needs to be found and get his brains picked out.
