Well to justify a swap, it couldn't have been done that long ago. The engine is from a 2000 and used engines couldn't have been available for cheap for at least 1-2 years.
We really need to see the underside of the car.

Although the first set of pics Jeff got seem plausible, I don't like it. The heater core lines should be visible from that angle. I know that engine isn't all that much wider (at the top) than a VE.... and even then, you can see the heater core lines. I'm just not buying into it just yet. I'll have to take a look at internetautomar's gallery next...

how can it be BS? its looks pretty damn legit to me... that is no photoshop. im pretty impressed though, but i wonder how much was spent because they did everything from engine, tranny, guage cluster, steering wheel, they put the flashers on the left of the steering wheel, and im assuming ecu and harness and all that was changed. it has a different coolant overflow container as well.. wow this is cool!!
now im thinking it may be time for VQ35 287 hp from the z and the 6 speed maxima tranny to go with it hehehe

You know motor swaps aren't that big of a deal if you think about it. People do motor swaps ALL the time, and most of the work is just time consuming, but not difficult. If you had a fifth gen and a 3rd gen sitting next to each other to swap the parts over it would be relatively easy. The main parts you'de have to fabricate are the motor mounts and CV shafts, and crossmember, all of which could be done by a shop. You don't even have to do alot of the stuff that this guy swapped over, like the gauges, steering wheel, brake booster, etc. The wiring would be time consuming but could be done fairly easily.
I just don't see why it is soooo unbelievable that this car exists. I don't see any BS involved at all in this.

i agree with you in that people do motor swaps all the time....however, what makes it "unbelievable" is that someone would take an otherwise perfectly good vq vehicle (hypothetical), a vg vehicle, sit them side by side and start moving stuff over....that's like trying to convert a bicycle to a full blown motorcycle when you could (after all is said and done) buy a motorcycle outright. It all boils down to $$$, time, and if you're a fanatic and crazy enough to do it.

4 gen engine bay. Fuse boxes are in the same location. Also brake master cylinder is similar. Strut mounts look the same. AFAIK, 4-gen struts didn't fit?
I wish some of you would stop speculating and start helping.
I don't know how this guy is offering to have people actually see it if it's fake. And what happens if he sells it?? Bidder comes and picks up the car and what? Fake. "whammo" would happen!

Personally, with the small differences (externally) between a VQ30DE/-K and VQ35DE, I would use the VQ35DE. I can understand if the DE-K was just laying around, but meh. IMHO the VQ30DE/-K is just wayy too mellow.
I'll look at the pics closer later. I have no interest to put a VQ in my max, so its not really a big deal.

The firewall is 3rd gen, from the silver vehicle plaque. Some of the underhood bits are likely parts from 3rd and 4th or 5th gens. It does sport the 4th gen front wheel gap. Can't wait for someone to test drive it, or get some under the car photos. I am suprised that they didn't use a 95 with a bad motor/tranny to swap the 2000+ engine/tranny into...

i can't beleive my eyes that a VQ30DE-K would fit in a 3rd gen .. that battery looks like it was installed at an angle tho

The engine is from a 2000-2001 I35 (assuming because of the engine cover). The engine is rated at 222hp from the factory. The 2001 AE editions were rated at 227hp, however that power increase has not been picked up on the dyno.
If you guys need any more shots, from a DE-K let me know and I'll go snap some from our 5th gen.

whoever goes to look at it, be sure to bring a digicam. Turn the flash on and be sure to take pics of the motor mounts and tranny. Take as many pics as you can without him freaking out and tell him you might do the same thing. Be calm and not "whoah! I can't believe it, blah blah blah."
This looks fairly legit. I really think the guy just doesn't know what he has. He probably thinks it's like swapping an H22A into a 90 Accord or something. If no one tells him about .org (especially this thread) and no one tells him how intriguing his car is, it probably will be had for cheap by an .org member.
Too bad we weren't more centralized and organized, or we could all pitch in like $25-$50 and buy it for R & D.

I was looking at the pics again and whoever did this must have had access to a junkyard. The engine in from an infiniti (at least the cover is) and the steering wheel is out of a 5th Gen Nissan. Infiniti steering wheels have their logo on it.

I'm figuring maybe because if they used the 5-gen wiring harness, they might have had to use a 5-gen steering wheel(correct airbag electronics). But I thought the airbag harness was seperate. I think in the 3-gen it is.

i'm assuming its got the typical 4th gen front wheel gap because its using 4th gen suspension. look at the strut towers, they're definitely 4th gen mounts. i think only .org members would even dream to frankenstein 3rd and 4th gen suspension, so that leads me to believe they used 4th gen springs/struts/mounts.
