Power surge when accelerating

Hi,

I just got my Max back from the workshop after having the good old Manifold studs replaced. Whilst in there I got them to replace the Cam Belt and the water pump.

Now I have noticed that upon mild acceleration from standstill or a slow speed I can feel the power surging.

For a second it is normal, and then I can feel the power dip for a second, then normal, then dip, then normal, until I hit about 60kms and it is either not there, or is not perceptible.

I also noticed that I could not feel it as evidently when I accelerated harder.

I thought I would run this by you, in case it was someting obvious to the group. . . .

Regards

Jarrod

From: Skokie (look it up)
have to assume you have a vg (timing belt)
and probably an automatic trans
if it's 89-91 then the tranny is probably going.
92 -94 all have a stronger trans (not too mention electronically controlled)

What do you mean by this?

I may not have been clear enough in my description of my problem. When I speak of a power surge, I am referring to the power of the engine, not the actual 12volt power in the car.

Is that what you meant?

Thanks for the reply

power surging as in the transmission dropping a gear to accelerate?

i think he's trying to say the engine cuts out.

you might take it back to the mechanics who worked on it and have them check everything to make sure they didn't screw something up.

Hi, to clarify, the transmission does not go so far as to drop a gear. In fact I am not sure that it is the transmission at all.

What it feels like is someone is pressing the throttle a little, then backing of, then power on again. This is not a violent bucking sort of change in acceleration, but a smooth loss and regain of power.

Thanks again for your replies.

well for one reason it might be that the maxima's putting too much power out that its stock ground wires which branched extra curcuit arent enough and it causes overload. try branchin more ground wire into the car and see if it work. that was what happened to me and it worked out for me and made it mor calm too. if not then i am just talking to myself haha

I recently cahnge my fuel pump.. after the my engine acts the same as you describe. At first i thought it was from the overdrive system...but that does not kick in until hight speed.. I am still trying to figure out what it is.
