so yesterday morning i decide that im gonna take my car into work....so i get out of my driveway start going done the block...i go around the block try to speed up a bit but the car isn't shifting out of first(i have an automatic), i start to freak out....ive had to rebuild my tranny already and right now my worst nightmare is to have to get that done again....anyways i pull her over right away check the tranny fluid and see that its low and that its leaking!....so i get back in the car and figure let me get to my garage....i start driving and the car is shifting fine so i decided i might as well take it to the mechanic.....and well basically all i needed was a new hose and fluid...the tranny is fine now....but i know alot of you guys can feel the way i felt....cus if you own an automatic max with over 100k miles on it....chances are you've gotten your tranny rebuilt.

You guessed it!

Me too. I also had an axle seal go bad that was just replaced. This also caused tranny fluid to leak. Keep in mind to have those checked if you leak again.

worst fear

is the tranny....one time i was driving and the car wouldnt shift I was doing like 20mph @ 3500 rpm...so then the car started overheating. So then i pulled over and blasted the heat that wasnt working so i turned the car off...when i turned i back on it ran fine. Never had a prob since. I have about 160,000miles on it

I don't have an auto tranny but my 5-spd is scaring the crap out of me. My clutch is acting real funny. When it's real cold my clutch gets real soft and the grind point is really shallow and then when it's warnm it works fine. Yesterday night I got stuck in Reverse with the clutch in and the gear shift almost in Neutral position. I finally put my foot on the brake hard and let it stall out and restarted it and it ran fine except for the soft clutch and low grind point. Today it warmed up and it ran like a champ. The dealer says it might me the hydraulics, ouch! I hope not.

Davis, have you bled the hydraulic lines on your clutch lately? it sounds like you've got air in the line(s)....

try bleeding the system and see if that helps.. I think it'll fix your problem.

hmmm yep auto tranny over 100K...yep I got a rebuild to...$2100 later my car runs great...let's see mine died in an intersection right after work...try having a bunch of inmpatient people waiting for you to crawl through a big intersection then I pull into a driveway that goes uphill and I block a diesel truck, so 4 guys had to push my car out of the way

Tranny story....

Yeah, I remember just before Christmas when I was in the bank drive thru, and my car wouldn't go ANYWHERE. It was in gear (auto), but nothing happened! I think I broke down to a blithering puddle of crying crap right then!! And I just got a new (ok, so it has 60k miles..... good as new to me!!!) engine the month before. My pocket was NOT ready for a rebuild. But it just turned out that my axle shaft came out of the transfer case, thank Goodness!!! One $2 retainer clip later, and I'm back on the road again!! Yippee!!!
