ABS warning light on
ABS warning light on
I just changed both front axles on my '92 SE. Yep, the right one with the three bolts on the support was a bear.
Since installing the new ones, the ABS warning light comes on in the instrument panel when I go more than 3-5 MPH. It goes back off if I shut the engine off and restart the car, but comes back on again.
I did NOT damage either the sensor or the new axles during the procedures, and I have the correct axles with the ABS "gear" that the sensor sees.
Any ideas? The LED code of 5 flashes indicates that the left front sensor is not working, but the light came on after I changed the right side, before doing the left.
Don't know if the ABS is actually working or not - it's much easier in the snow or rain to get it to go off, but it's hot and dry now.

Looks for UK nissans in the stickies. Has the diagnostic procedure.

Chances are you either:
a. Damaged the wire/sensor
or b. (more likely) got an axle with the wrong ring on it.

I'm not sure, but I believe that in models without ABS, the rings (gears, whatever) are not on the axles at all.
I need to check the resistance of both sensors and see if they fall within the expected value in ohms. If not, then I'll see about getting new ones. In the meantime, the first thing I'm going to do is disconnect the battery and see if that resets anything.
Thank you for your input!

I checked earlier today with a NIssan dealer in Arizona (Brown & Brown) who discounts about 35% for out-of-state mail order parts - they're $100 apiece!
I did the diagnostic earlier - says left front (5 flashes). I checked the resistance on both sides and got nothing at all - open circuit. On the other hand, I also tried to check the rears - too hard to get at, and couldn't get a reading there because I couldn't get a connection (couldn't see inside the connector to touch the 2 contacts).
