Hey guys, this is a question that I'm posting for a friend...

He's got an 89 max & his speedo has been acting up lately... He'll drive for about 10 miles, it'll stop working and acting strange & about 30 miles later it goes back to normal.....

Is there anything that controls the speedo in a 3rd gen? or is the speedo just garbage....

I don't have the answer, but will be glad to see responses from others.

Mine started doing the same thing years ago. Changed the speed sensor and it did nothing. Originally it would read 10-20 mph fast some of the time. Later it would peg, not read at all or read fast. Now it always reads fast unless its pegged. The cruise control works fine unless the speedo is pegged.
