knock sensor problems

hey guys,

I Have had a problem with my ECU throwing a code 34 (knock sensor) ever since i installed the VG30et. I am thinking I am getting this code because i used the VG30DEt knock sensor. So i wanted to know if there was a temp fix for it (kinda like the VE guys do with the resistor). I Tried putting in the 470K resistor like they do on the VE and it didn't work, i still got a code 34. Also How do you clear the codes from the ECU? Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

To reset the ecu put it in mode 4 then turn the key to the off position and wait about 10 seconds or so before you turn it back on. (i can't remember if the fsm said to wait the 10 seconds or not but for some reason i thought it did).

as for the knock sensor your best bet would probably be just to grab one off of a vg30e. i'll look into other options though.

Thanks for the telling me how to clear the ECU. Helped out a lot, after clearing the ECU i tried the resistor again and it still gave me a code 34 but after some work (cleaning of the harnes) it ended up working. Now my only problem is i now have a code 21. I just can't win i guess but thanks again for the info. Also I think to clear the ECU you have to put it in position 4 then wait 10sec, then turn the car off at least thats what worked for me.

i've had that code a few time before. i think it happened mostly when i tried putting the msd 6al in. other times its gave me that code i didn't notice anything wrong but it was there and eventually went away. its kind of weird.

Thats clears things up a little. Must be comeing up because of my jacobs. I was going to take it all apart ( all wiring for jacobs) and see if i had a short but i guess i will just give it time and see if it goes away. Thanks

i think the problem is (as msd explains it) some cars run multiple signals off of the same wire or electric signal and when an aftermarket ignition system is installed it makes the voltage go too low for anything to trigger. the msd tach adapter is supposed to fix this problem on the msd systems.

btw, do you have any pictures of your setup and is it running?

I don't have any pics of it together like it is now but i could take some
if you wana see my setup. Its been running for about a year now, but because of money i have been slow to fix the car after it broke. When i first finished it the tap in the oil pan began to leak and two injectors died after about two months of me having it back together. All that is fixed now and the car seems to be running fine (exept for the fact that i need a new water pump and other small parts). I didn't do anything crazy. All i really did was custom front motor mount, made by me and cut back the timing to 10deg also custom downpipe which looks kinda hacked but hey it works.

I still haven't had any luck with the codes, i checked it today and it still gave me a code 21. I am going to try to take some pics of my setup on wednesday when i am off from work. Also when you ran the MSD and you had a code 21 did it effect the car? I ask because my car seems to be fine, starts right up and runs pretty good. Does the ECU cut back timing when its throwing a code 21? I am probably just going to buy that part you were talking about (ignition adapter) but before i do is this the right part?http://store.summitracing.com/partde...art=MSD%2D8912
Thanks for all your help.

with the msd hooked up it wouldn't run at all until i unhooked it. for some reason though, with the msd off, the code would come on but i didn't notice any negative effects. kind of strange...
