Air strut suspension ~ Bell drop

Hey guys,

I will be buying an air strut suspension from AIM Industries in the next month or so and I've got a question...
How much room (I know it's not a whole lot) do we have between our front strut tower and the hood. If we have enough space I really wanted to upgrade the air suspension kit with the 2" STRUT BELL DROP OPTION but we need a whole lot of space betwen the strut tower and the hood that I don't think we have.
This would let the car drop 2 more inches if we have this space . Maybe I could modify the hood or something to give me more space. Has anyone put on a different hood or hood scoops that would give me more space so I could do the bell drop??? Thanks, Joel

you have to specify what the strut bell frop option is. i would assume its maybe a strut bearing, but lower profile, but either way you should have no problem with hood clearence. my car with the 18's is the lowest you can possibly go without modifying the structure of the car(look at my cardomain pics for my 18's). theres not that much room with air to go lower. if you have the courage get some hydraulics.

Hey man, thanks for helpin' me out!

Check the UPGRADE TO 2" STRUT BELL DROP OPTION $100 at this site: http://www.truckn-store.com/product....t.asp&ID=58682

When I called them they said I needed two inches from the top of the front strut tower to the hood in order for it to fit without hitting the hood...

honestly, I don't think that'll do you much good. the factory 3rd gen upper mounts are HUGE, but you can mod your struts to use a 4th gen mount. they cost about $50 or so per side and will give you easily an inch more of clearance.

Hey Matt, thanks for your input...do you mean that the bell drop upgrade won't do me much good??? The factory upper mounts are huge, yes I agree...how do I go about modding the struts to use the 4th gen mount. I just want the front tires to be able to tuck and drop as low as the back ones will.... Thanks a lot...Joel

the fronts WILL drop that low using the 3rd gen mounts.. but they won't be able to drive like that since the strut bottoms out very quickly.

to use the 4th gen mounts, there's really nothing needed to "mod" on the 3rd gens, but you need the entire upper mount from the 4th and the spring perch from the 3rd. the parts that you usually replace on the 4th gen mount is only about half of the entire thing, and you've got to have the whole thing. for one of my customers, I just went to a junkyard and bought a whole 4th gen front strut off a junker and stole the parts I needed off it.
