WAV Files of VTC Failure???
#1
Does anyone have any WAV files of a 3rd gen with bad VTCs??? My Maxima has been making some awful sounds lately and I am curious as to if this is it. I know that it is a ticking but mine almost sounds like a knocking. Thanks for your help.

I almost did. I tried recording mine before and after the VTC rewire, but the sound turned out pretty bad so you could barely hear it.
It is just like they say - a ticking, I wouldn't really say it's a knocking so that could be something else

I recorded my engine, but I am unsure of how to get it on to the computer. Yeah there is definitley something wrong with it, the noise is there when I start and usually goes away after about 10 minutes of driving. Then sometimes it satys longer, but it sounds awful, but I haven't really noticed any reduction of power or anything like that. All signs seem to point to bad VTCs. Thanks Craig.

vtc noise
Its pretty much like this, and yes they can be loud.. Have you ever heard a diesel engine? pretty much sounds like that when the vtc's start acting up.. thats the easiest way i can think of to describe it.. no wav file needed.. if thats it, YOU'll know... hands down..
