Catback Question

im in need of a catback exhaust. ive been looking around and the greddy seems to be the popular one. i want power, not loud but deep. if someone out there can give me some other options that would be great. thanks

you can have one custom made at a local shop. Mandrel bent is pretty expensive, but crush bent is relatively cheap and 2.5" crush bent will flow well enough for your application. Then you can pick out whatever muffler you want. I recommend adding a resonator in there, too, if you want to get away from the drone. If you pick a relatively inexpensive muffler, it will cost you in the neighborhood of $250-$350 installed and out the door.

i would go for the shop bending u a pipe 2.5 and keep ur old resonator. try going to www.flowmastermufflers.com to hear some sounds.they dont have a max but i had the 40 series b4 and its good.as far as a cat-back greddy is the way to go for all out performance, this muffler gets quieter the faster u go and even on the highway at 3k rpm u can almost hear it.have u ever heard of a hybrid from a 96 civic?

Um. If he upgrades to a 2.5" pipe, how is he going to use his old resonator if the in/outlets are only about 2"? The Greddy is one of the best sounding cat backs I've heard. But NO exhaust gets quieter as the rpm rises.

What's up with kids today?

I dunno, in antons car, the exhaust is loudest at 2100rpm or so, after 3000 it dies down. I can also kind of hear it in my car but since mine does not get nearly as loud as Anton's it's harder to tell. At about 3000-3500rpm the tone changes completely.

I dunno, just with our 2 cars it seems that before 3000rpm is when the exhaust is the loudest. Maybe its cause the car is moving faster and faster? I dont really ever rev my engine in neutral just at a stand still soo.... lol.

Are you trying to tell me that Anton's exahust (hacked no muffler exahust) and your Greddy is quieter and full song (ie.. vg 6,000 rpm/VE 7,000 rpm) than at 3,000 rpm?? Mine sure isn't.

the greddy has been tuned for ur car. ull get the highest performance available.they run test after test on our 3rd gen for developement.trust me the greddy somehow gets quieter after 3k rpm it sounds weird but its true.

Bad grammar aside, can you post some dyno results of the Greddy vs some other catbacks? ie.. warpspeed/custom etc..? Because as you say, they ran test after test. That means there should be proof after proof listed. I like the Greddy but it's only 2.5" pipe to a resonator and muffler. Not really rocket science

What about the 2" resonator thing?

Um crush the ends of the resonator SMALLER than 2" ?? Or crush the 2.5" pipe to 2"?? If you meant that, you just negated all the gains provided by the 2.5" piping. Nice

I look forward to your provided dynos

I'd assume Jeffy/thumpyls are talking about a WSP 2.5" catback then using a stock 2" resonator, and not saying

1. the greddy is 2.5"
2. the greddy uses a 2" resonator

Just wanted to make sure

anywho

2.25" diameter

I'm saying using a resonator that has an in/outlet smaller diameter than the rest of the system is rediculas. Despite what each dia any particular system is.
If you guys want to use a 2" resonator on a catback that measures 2.25" 2.5" or 10", go right ahead.

I'm not saying that at all. Just reading the thread it sounded like you guys were talking about the greddy resonator being smaller than the rest of the system. It went from a post about the greddy to a post about the smaller resonator.

bah nevermind lol

It may be just me but I always thought the muffler you used was pretty much just a sound preferance. The muffler alone shouldn't make that much of a difference in performance. Its mostly the size of your exhaust pipe. Am I wrong?

Yeah, I'm the one with the hybrid catback from the Civic. Fit the Maxima like it was made for it! lol

I would reccomend getting the coupe, but I don't know about the 4dr? I don't wanna tell you something, then you go out and buy it and it doesn't fit? I would go with the coupe, but just look at the 4dr exhaust if you can. Look at how the exhaust is routed, thats what I did. As a matter of fact, I did all my guesstimations by looking and I got lucky! lol

BTW: Pics of my Civic exhaust setup are on my cardomain site on page 6.

So you just took the catback (aftermarket?) designed for a Civic coupe & it fit perfectly on your 3rd Gen Max?

Like I've always said, it's not going to fit perfectly. It's from a Honda, it's not made for the Maxima, but it's the closest thing to a Maxima's exhaust routing that I could find. Mine was a little too long for where I wanted it installed, but I had all of my work done custom at a shop that one of my friends owns. There was a little elbow that they needed to add to safely get over the rear axle or w/e you want to call it, but other than that it's like the Civic exhaust was made for our cars!! lol
