Abs Unit

My '92 SE...has a leaking ABS UNIT....I need to replace it with a stock replacement, but i wasn't sure if it has to be from another 1992 SE...or is it interchangeable between year or model?

They're interchangeable - check the model number to be 100% sure. Probably find the same unit used on Stanza, 300ZX & other Nissans of that era. I've even seen the same units on some Subaru's of a similar vintage.

Interchangeable between which years....91? 93? 90?.....
What should I look for when comparing model #'s? Should they begin with the same set of #'s or something?.....

Thanks

Unless you know for sure, I'd only look for abs units from SE maximas from the year 1992-1994 (including those years) ie.. VG powered maximas had different abs systems than VE powered maximas.

Would I just need the unit or would I need to get the entire computer with it....and also would I need an electrician to replace it.

THanks

IMHO, you don't need an electrican nor do you have to replace the abs ecu (if it's not bad)

If you are certain it's the abs unit that's bad, replacement is pretty easy. I'd refer to a service manual but it's basicly unhook the battery for safety. Unplug the abs connectors. GENTLY unscrew the abs lines into the unit and use a rag to catch any leaky fluid. Then undo the abs mounting bolts and remove unit. Install is the reverse of removal. Then carefully rebleed the brake lines. I don't remember if you have to rebleed the lines with the battery undone or not but that would be safer

Maybe sensor & software upgrade between early & later models - but the abs actuator is the same.
The unit code on my max is: 47600 96E00 It's a '93 NZ VG - I've seen JDM VE of similar year with same actuator.
Better to get actuator from 92-94 years, though. Won't matter if it's SE or GXE trim - same unit used.

I think the first set of numbers is the part code & the second set the update model code - this is a similar pattern on most nissan parts. If it's from a 3rd gen max, it's the right part as it matches my code.

I looked up the part #, and it came up as an ABS modulator. Is that what I'm looking for, because I'm hearing all these different types of names for it.....

The part that I need is located above the passenger side under the hood, next to the radiator.

I'M SO LOST......

Thanks for every1's help

Yes. Pump, unit, modulator. It all refers to that thing that looks like a baby Briggs and Stratton by your rad.

Would I need to get anything else along with the actuator/pump (i.e. wires, cords, hoses, relays, sensors).....or is the unit enough. Because I just want to make sure before I buy the unit.

Thanks
