Need to replace the starter in my 94 max se auto. 93000 miles anyone have a link to a how to site . Or a step by step link thanks.

 

step by step?

disconnect battery
disconnect starter wiring connections
remove 2 bolts
pull starter down....reverse to install.

 

My starter crapped out too yesterday. First time the car has let me down in 7 years. Is the starter on the back side of the engine and is is best to come in from the driver's side or the passenger's side? I only ask cuz I'll have to do this in the road in front of the house.

The starter will be in the front of the car. Just follow the postive wire from the batterry down. Where the postive is hooked too is the starter.

 

I'm not sure where it is on the SE Autos, but for the VG and the VE 5 speeds, the starter is on the front of the tranny.. can't be any easier to change, period.

 

Tried to start my car and there just a clicking noise, and it wouldn't turn over. First I thought it was the battery. Took the battery to a shop and had it tested it was fine. Looked at the fuses they were fine and all the connections were good. Tapped the cylinoid with a hammer and the car then started right up. Has anyone else had this problem. If so was it the starter that was going bad?

 

SE autos have their starter right on top of the tranny. ie.. 12 O'clock. Not quite as easy of a replacement as on the 5-sp versions. But still not too difficult. You might have to take off some of the intact tract to access the starter easier.

 

I think that it's the starter. If you tapped on the starter and then the car started up, chances are something inside is getting stuck or wearing out. I had a similar problem, only when I turned the key I could hear it spinning, and sometimes it would grind for a split second before it turned the engine. Just to be sure though, you could pull the starter off and take it to somewhere like autozone and they can test it for you.

 

Very common with any car.. the solenoid itself is starting to go bad... sometimes you can still drive for years, other times it will completely die on you next week.
a solenoid is almost as expensive as the entire starter w/ new solenoid on it, so I suggest just replacing the whole thing..
remember, the car is only 10 years old. things are bound to wear out in 10 years.
