Cruise Control Dash Switch MOD?

Hello,

After countless times of seeing this on the 4th generation form & the other forms I wanted to try. Seeing how they made this switch always on. I blew a few fuses *thank God nothing else* I know I am just lazy but who cares. Does anyone know how to make the switch on the dash always stay on? So I just have to press the one button on the steering wheel? So do we have the cruise control always on switch mod?

I think he's talking about the CC switch on the dash panel, not the light. You have to press the switch to "ON" before you can set your CC on your steering wheel. I know there is a way to do this.

All you need to do is get out your multimeter and find out which terminals connect when you press the on switch. Then you can make a jumper wire so they are always connected. I don't see how this could hurt. But MAKE SURE the almighty Mr. Craig (EE) approves of this idea before you start taking my word for it. I would do it on MY car, but I hate to be at fault when a fellow Maxima.org member's car burns to the ground.

AAron your right on why i want to do it. It's annoying to have to press two buttons just to get my CC to work. Hopefully craig will be here shortly to answer and write up how to and stuff.

you can't do it the 4 gen way....i've tried and blew some fuses so...i dont know what else to do.

I dont see any reason why it cant be done in the same way that 4th gens do it and just bypass the ASCD hold relay. I'll take a look at it tonight when I get home and see what I can find out. Maybe if you're lucky, I'll even get some pics

awesome thanks craig. I've tried doing the override the right way this time......it and it still blew the rad fan fuse in the dash.....so I thought i had the wrong the relay but the cruise control didn't work either so i figured i had the right one. but if you could help me tonight that would be great.

I guess you never found the fuse diagrams that I posted in the other thread. The radiator fans are on the same fuse as the cruise control so if the fuse blows because of a problem with either of them, then neither will work since they are no longer getting power.
The ASCD hold relay should be in the left front corner of the relay box just in front of the battery. Which terminals did you try to jump in there?

This must have already been done to my car before I got it. I have never had to push the on but for my cc just hit the set button on the steering wheel.

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to look into it. I helped a friend replace brake pads and then there was a huge lightning storm that shut off power until 4am this morning. I did see a utility pole spark and then catch fire so that was kinda cool though.

Looking at the FSM, there is no reason that you shouldn't be able to just jump 3&5 in the relay. I looked at a 4th gen FSM too and the relay is the same way and it works for them. Are you SURE that you got the correct wires? If you jumped the other two, that'd be power and ground to the relay and definitely blow a fuse. Look under the relay box and the wires should be white with red stripe and green with white stripe. I'll try it myself sometime this weekend to be sure though.

so yeah, it was just like I thought and I still think you just did the wrong terminals (or wrong relay) the first time
I added it to my how-tos
