A leaky Trany

Is there a write up on how to change the transmission oil and removing the oil pan. My gasket is leaking. People want to charge me 170 dollars to do this. I think could do it myself for a lot less.

I have a 94 max gxe. It seemed like the pan is on top of the tranny not underneath the car. Any advice would greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it is to top Gasket. I took it to several Mechanic and they told they couldn't figure out where the leak is coming from. They wanted to take out the tranny. I notice the tranny had oil on all sides, so I'm pretty sure it is the top. How hard is it to take out to the top pan and where is the filter located on the transmission?

the filter is inside..its a pita to get to..if you change the gasket though, you should be able to get to it while you're doin that, but I THINK its a screen, so you should just be able to clean it..and as for changing the fluid, all I did was drain the old out and pour 5 quarts through it to flush out the old, moving the shifter through all positions, and then i put the plug back in and filled it up..of course you'll want to drain the tranny before you take the pan off..I suppose if you were really ambitious, you could drain the tranny, take the pan off, clean the screen, put the screen and pan back in place, pour a quart of fluid through it, then put the plug back in it and fill it, start it and drive it a few miles, drain it again, take the pan back off, clean the screen again, and put it all back together, flush again, and fill it and then be good..but..I dont know anyone that ambitious, especially since its FAR from needed

LOL...the screen is BURIED! no way you can drive it then pull the top and get to the screen.

that's the screen/filter w/ the crusty magnet on it. if you can get this out w/o dropping the entire tranny...YOU ARE THE MAN.

the pan is on top on the RE4F02A...not at the bottom.

Someone told me I could use brake cleaner to clean the pan and parts of the tranny that is under the pan. Is that true?

you can IF the part is out of the tranny. i don't recommend spraying brake cleaner INTO the tranny.

just a tip...clean around the gasket area BEFORE you pull the pan off. it'll make your life easier.
