Getting new keys...

I've got a question about some key stuff...
When I bought my car the owner only had the "valet" key, so I can't lock my glovebox...and the trunk seemed to have been broken into when I got it...you can practically open the trunk with a scissors (infact...I've done it). I was wondering if anyone knows If Nissan will make me a new key, as the master key (there's still a code in the glovebox)...and maybe get me a matching trunk lock? I just bought some VE tails from Mizeree_X and he's sending me a trunk lock and key from his parts car...but that might be kind of a hassle...anyone?

ANY locksmith can cut the key off the code.
I had mine done a while back, but My trunk lock still doesn't work.

I don't think having a different lock/key for your trunk is too much of a hassle... the lock on my white SE was frozen so I swapped in a lock from my parts car and it works great.. you just have to carry an extra key on your keychain (helps if the trunk key looks different from the key for the rest of the car)... its easy to swap out too... 20 min of work at the most

Hi,

only the nissan keys can open the trunk and the glove box,

i think only the master key will open and lock the glove box,

for the trunk if it is stuck try using wd4 in the trunk lock area and see if it open,

my was stuck also untill i use wd4 and the trunk lock work with the master key,

I'm sorry for not being clear but I mean like aftermarket key or something that doesn't have such a huge black rubber head.

About the trunk lock - you can get it re-keyed from a locksmith. That way you can use the same key for all the locks, including the trunk. It'll probably cost you +/- 20 dollars.

I didn't know that... I'm gonna have to try that. Cuz I know when I went to Nissan, I presented them with with the scenario of only having my valet key and needing a new master key

They said that as long as they have your VIN, they can cross-reference it with whereever your car originated (in MY case, Iowa) and get the key code THAT way. Unfortunately for me, the originating dealer didn't put the key code stuff on record - so I was S.O.L, in that regard

Rick,

If you go to Keith's right behind the Moon and bring your trunk lock cylinder in along with the ignition key they'll change the pins and you'll be set.

I would NOT use Wd40 in the trunklock, or any lock for that matter. Use a silicone or graphite based lube, that way the dust and dirt won't be attracted.

If you're getting a key made up by a locksmith anyways, just have him re key the trunklock so that it matches the rest of the car. It might cost a little more, but it'll be worth it in the long run when you're fumbling with your keys at night, trying to get in the trunk. Also helps for resale, helps to make it look as though you've taken better care of the car.
