A/T hell
A/T hell
Wow, by the number of tranny threads, it seems like this is the season for dying trannys. My problem, however is much deeper.
I take it to the shop, get a low mileage tranny and am told I need new engine mounts. I recalled the feeling before i took it in and remembered that there was a bit of rocking from time to time, never consistant. I get the car back and the damn tranny is showing the same habbits my dead one did before it crashed, i.e. irregular shifting, prolonged/shortened gears etc. This told me that it was something electrical that caused my last problem. I'm not worried about that as much as i am about my mounts. The engine rocks enormously. Putting in gear, accelerating or even just stopping, the damn thing rocks so bad it scares me. The car feels worse after I payed 1,400 than it did before. Somethings not right.
I take his advice and get mounts asap. Look what I discover:

Engine Mount.... Mounted to nothing (yes i know i have axle grease everywhere, thats next.)
Yes that's right, they swaped in the transmission and forgot the bracket that connects to the engine mount. -The actual part that serves the engine mounts purpose. They sent that bracket back to No. Cali with my transmission in the core exchange. But even before that, when i first took off my tire I also noticed this:

Rims...on the wrong side of the vehicle.
So what can I reasonably ask this shop to do for this?

Oh, I get it! I had to look at the 'rims on the wrong side of the vehicle' pic for awhile though! Never had directional tread tires on my cars! Seems like you got an open/shut case on those 'mechanics' to go out and find you another motor mount and bracket and put it on FOR FREE or pay you a bunch of money to do it yourself.
It's a nice and horrible drive... I only drove it around with no bracket for 2 days very gingerly. Do you think theres any possible way i put too much wear on anything by doing that? I don't want to wind up replacing other stuff just because of these mounts...
id get the engine mount for free, take it to another shop that you could trust more, see if they think it did any damage and then have them assess the new used tranny to see how well it was built etc. then if its bad or somethings wrong take the paper showing the evidence that something got damaged and that they need to fix/ replace it for free. and if they refuse, u could just sue them or take them to court to fix it, oh and if there is a problem, make them pay for the other guy looking at it too
Well i visit these guys tomorrow to discuss the engine mount deal but even after that I'm still left with my original problem.
Anyone know what the whole prolonged first/shortened second gear problem is caused by. I am pretty sure it's electrical and am almost guessing it might be the TBS. Anyone ever experience/fix this?

the engine mount looks broken.
it should have 2 studs in it on a L shaped bracket.
the bracket on the tranny should also be L shaped...it bolts to those 2 holes that you see in the pic and wraps around to the governor/oil filter area.
UNLESS they changed design on me or something.

nonono, The engine mount was just one of the things that needed to be replace before they could do some tests to diagnose the problem. I took it in today and told them all the things they messed up on and they offered to replace the mount, bracket, and run a diagnosis for free. After that, I talked to him on the phone and he told me my week/prolonged shifting has to do with the main harness leading to the transmission.
Apparently there is no line pressure after 1st gear under heavy acceleration. I hope the electrical problem is small and easy to fix... Havn't discussed charges yet. :-/
