dust guard

yesturday i was under the car, and took off teh front dirt/dust guard that goes under the alternator, and 12 years of MN winters made it so the bolts broke then i took them off (i think one didnt break) so i was just wondering how important it is to get that back on? and if it is any ideas on how to get it on w/ all the holes full of broken bolts

it's pretty important. the alternator is right by there..electrical and water don't mix.

drill out the slugs and tap new holes.

Seriously, tho, DanNY is right...you want those on to keep as much water and other crud out of the engine bay as possible.

nah. don't sweat it, man. this is normal for most car. don't even bother drilling it either. what works for me is this 3M super adhesive....damn I can't remember what's it called. it comes with a detachable pair. whatever the hell they're called, I think you know what I'd meant. and yeah I got them from kmart for $4 for 4 pieces and they worked terrific. once it goes on, it stays on forever. just be sure to clean off any greases before applying.

Not sure about the super adhesive, you may need to take this cover off again sometime...

well i looked for splash guard and i couldnt find it... so i went to nissan and asked for one and he said $81 (didnt buy it of course, im just gunna keep looking for one) then he trys to tell me that the alt will get wet no matter what and the only reason you want them on is for cooling certan parts certain ways.... god i hate being 18 haha.

also, my car has been shifting funny/hard (5 speed) so i was gunna put some more 80-90 in it and when i took the fill hole plug off about 3-4 oz came out. so i decided to go out and buy more and just do a whole flush, but when i started out it was shifting the best it has ever shifted in the 4 months ive owned it. is it possible that i just had too much in it or something like that????

thanks
steve

they're not similar? I had to replace my splash guard a week ago and couldn't find another 3rd gen. I took the piece of a 2nd gen that was similar and forced it in...it's better than nothing.

It works, but I had to wrettle with is and only got 3 of the 6 bolts to line up with the holes.
