What is the normal idle speed in "D"?

Whats up ppl,

My idle speed in "D" or "R" modes (with depressed brake pedal) is about 600-650 RPM. When I shift to "N" or "P" it raises to 700-750. I know that 750 +/-50 is a normal idle speed in neutral. But I can't find any reference in FSM as to the "idle" speed in drive mode.
So can somebody tell me what is the normal idle speed for the drive mode?

And another question. My idle is slightly unstable (needle jumps up and down about 50 rpms). I thought that I have a vacuum leak and was going to get to the lower manifold to check hoses there becuase I've already checked all the reachable hoses and found nothing. But according to FSM if there is a vacuum leak in the system rpms should go up when pinch blow-by hose (the one that goes to PCV). But in my case it didn't happen at all.
So the question is what else should I check?

Thanks in advance.

500 is way low. That is on the verge of stalling. So I bet your idle in D is vibrating like crazy.

My idle in N is 750 and my idle in D with the brake firmly pressed is about 650 rpm. I'd say, if your idle is any lower than 600 in D, then you are experiencing some heavy vibrations b/c of a low, rough idle. I don't know what would cause a low idle like that, but for you, don't worry about that. 650 rpm is fine for being in D.

That blow by hose, not many people have ever replaced that before. So yours is probably the original hose, which means it's dry rotted and rock hard. So if you squeeze it with pliers, it might shatter. Mine did after I replaced it. But with a new hose in place, you can squeeze it. I'm not sure if my idle changes when i squeeze it, I haven't tried it.

I'm glad you have a FSM. You know more than 95% of the people on this forum just b/c you have a FSM. Just follow those steps in the FSM for a rough or unstable idle and see where that gets you.

That's wierd. My idle has dipped to 500 before and it stalled once. And if it didn't stall, the car shook like crazy and barely caught back up. 500 is low. I only had idle issues b/c of the ECU tinkering I was doing.

Are you sure it isn't 600? Well, I'm only talking about how it is for my VE. That's all. I have a testpipe too. But I don't know what that has to do with the idle.

You're right man it's rock hard. And yes I squeezed it with pliers but nothing changed. Apparently it's time to replace the hose.

I'm really glad that I got FSM. Even if I won't use all the informaton in it it's already repaid itself.
Yes I'm trying to follow the steps in FSM to fix the problem. But you know it's in the man's nature always to look for the shortcut
