Im assuming your talkng about an automatic. A HUNDRED BUCKS ?? i would never pay that tranny fluid is less than a quarter of that in price. Will it not be good for it ? ummmm no. fresh fluids are always welcome !

If it's a full tranny flush, then $100 isnt too far out. If I remember right, I paid about $90 to have the tranny flushed on my old max. I would say it wouldnt hurt to have it done, but then again 3rd gen auto trannys have many issues, so you never know.

Automatic transmissin fluid change is bad for high mileaged cars. The gears, clutches, and bands in the transmission wear and the volume of the atf actually helps. So if you have more than 100,000 miles on your car since it was last changed, which is probably the circumstance. Don't change.

you have to be carefull how you word that.
You say its bad for high mileage cars...thats not all together true. Changing the trans fluid is one thing that should always be done even (especially) on an older car. I know what you meant (if it hasnt been changed in 100K like you listed) but just wanted to clear it up so people didnt get the wrong idea.
The thing you have to think of is this. Sure if the trans. hasnt been taken care of and it wasnt changed like it should it may fail shortly after changing it (because it cleanes out deposits that may be sealing otherwise leaks) but if you dont change it its going to fail any way. You loose either way so you just have to decide what you want to do.
$100 is not bad for a "flush". They actually hook it up and flush "all" of the fluid out including the fluid in the converter. A drain and refil will not run that much but is not as thourough as a true flush.

DO NOT FLUSH IT!! Just do a drain and refill. I flushed my tranny in Jan 2003 and this February the tranny was done. Plus then you won't be on here again in a year asking questions about what your options are now that your tranny is shot.

well wait, is this commercial abou the "trans check 21 plus" or something, because I heard that on the radio where they check for any external problems on the tranny and drain and fill the fluid. I mean, I dunno if that's a good thing for a high mileage car or anything, but it was for $100

I flushed my max at 137k a year ago and the fluid had *NEVER* been changed...shifts so much better now than it did, and the fluid is still red/pink and spells like fresh tranny fluid instead of BLACK and smelling like burnt nasty metallic tranny fluid..

This myth always pops up and that keeps people from maintaining their automatic transmission. You should ATLEAST do a few drain and fills within a week of one another. That will help dilute the old fluid.
I had 100K miles on my car when I got it flushed. The fluid was old and not bright red like it should be. There was no burnt smell to the fluid at all (burnt = bad). I got my tranny flushed at Jiffy Lube and it was $90 after tax. BEST thing I could have ever done! Tranny started shifting normal.
But it is somewhat possible for a flush to remove buildups in the tranny that have been sealing leaks. But it's not likely in a tranny under 150K miles. At the very least, PLEASE do some drain and fills.
