fixing the distributor

is this something that is difficult to do? the mechanic wants 400 for parts, 200 for labor. can I do this myself?

SkyMax said that distribotors aren't supposed to go bad, and I should take a look at a junkyard's maxima and pull one, does this sound like a plan?

the guy at the shop told me though, that my shaft in the distribotor is spinning off center or something, and eventually it'll snap
