a/t harsh shifting

my tranny is shifting pretty hard. It seems to be shifting at full line pressure no matter what RPM the engine is at or how I drive it, slow or fast. What's the deal? I know there is a sensor somewhere. What is that thing called?

Or it could be that you need a new resistor. Look in your engine bay near the intake there should be two wires connected by a clear glass like thingy. Replace that. If you need fluid then the tranny will take forever to do anything at full pressure. I speak from experience and a bad tranny.

a resistor that "controls" the transmission line pressure, and shifting firmness

My transmission seems to shift "harder" at below 2500rpm; and nice and smooth above that mark...and after about 5-10 minutes of driving, the hard shifting stops.

I always figured this is just due to the fact that the tranny has approx. 140,000 miles on it. The Fluid still has it's color and everything; though if it gets worse I'm going to start paying closer attention.

Is this anything to worry over?

I think that is. Now all you have to do is find the other wire to re-insert it.

floods943 when you check your fluid do you do it in gear at operating temp? To do this put the car in D and pull the e-brake. Then clean the dipstick and check it from there. Seems like a fluid issue. When was the last time you had the fluids completely flushed?

I know i have read a good right up on how to change atf. something about finding the lead line to the cooler and letting 2 quarts out and then putting two in....ect ect. do about 10qts and its flushed. jiffy lube wanted like 200$ for it. If anyone knows where that write up is post it for these guys.

I feel kinda stupid now but here is the link. its for the 4th or 5th gen maxima, but its not a bad read. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=149056

if you put too much transmission fluid in the tranny, will it cause harsh shifting?
