92 Project Car - Windsheild Leak Found and Fixed

When I bought my project car I knew it had a leak. I didn't know where it was coming from, but the previous owner thought it was from a cracked sunroof.

I have since replaced the sunroof, but never really thought that it was leaking - I knew it was somewhere else - I just didn't know where.

Since I removed the interior in order to replace it (and to paint the car), I went looking for the leak.

As I tested the windshield with a hose, it seemed like I would never find the leak - and then, out of no-where, the box surrounding the A/C fan (inside the car) started to leak.

Well come to find out that the leak was caused by the fact that at some time, the windshield had been replaced. At the bottom of the windshield, the are 2 stand-offs for mounting the windshield (yellow in the picture).

The stand-off on the passenger side is mounted directly above the fresh air intake. Normally, the fresh air intake is a good 1/2" above any water that can enter from the firewall, but since the standoff is directly above the intake, any water that is leaked goes directly into the airbox (what idiot designed THAT?? )

Replacing the stand-off and sealing it with some RTV did the trick.

I wanted to post this for anyone else that my find this - It would have saved me a ton of time!
