my Cosmo racing CAI looks just like the blue Mugen one you are talking about......you do have to cut a 3" or so hole in the fender near the battery/old airbox....its worth the 2 hours to install, quicker if your not using a drill bit 100 times to make the hole like me....but it looks fine and I like it...same blue powder boat as the mugen, but the mugen is a cheaper price...

dude, go look at the link I just posted. it says specifically on MUGEN'S website that they only make parts for Hondas!
the intake you're looking at is a crap imitation intake.. probably off an accord that some ebay idiot sellier is saying will fit the Maxima as well.

So basically I just need to fork out some dough and get a real CAI.
I am curious though, is there any more performance gains with CAI versus the regular K&N filter (i guess that's called a pop charger?) under the hood?
thanks!

Eerrrr no not really.
If it's cheap enough, who cares what sticker they put on. As long as it fits I guess. It looks the same as most of the other fleabay CAIs. If you had taken the time to dig enough, you would have found alot of info on this.
Most of the time, these cai kits have really cheap filters so be careful.

Last I checked, they didn't seem to be making them for the VEs (or VQs).

Just get the Ebay one. For $60, it wouldn't be the end of the world if it didn't fit. Looking at pictures of it compared to other cheap Ebay CAIs that people have bought, it probably does fit.
