loose antenna?

I recently replaced the antenna mast on my '91. It went in fine and works
but it seems loose. It wiggles back and forth a little bit when its extended.
I wondered if there was some kind of trick when you install it to "lock it in"?
Thanks for any info.

Hi,

one reason your mast is lose because there isn't a washer on the antenna to hold it down in the motor,

if you want a washer you have to go to the junkyard and find a motor that has a washer in there,

i hope this help your problem,

I'm minus a mass too. Did you hook it back up to the power unit or is it just up all the time? If so, how hard was it?

It was actually not too hard to fix. The plastic cable inside the mast broke.
I had to take apart the motor and get the broken piece of plastic out, put
the motor back together and re-install. Then threaded the plastic on the
new mast into the motor from above, turned the radio off and it pulled the
new mast down into the car.

here's a good explanation I found to help me:

So what if you hear the antenna motor running...... and then it stops.
But the antenna hasn't been raised at all...not even an inch...

Recently I haven't heard the motor running anymore....Do i need a new motor, mast and antenna?

Thanks

Well, My motor was running trying to raise and lower the antenna but the plastic cable inside the antenna mast that does the raising/lowering was broken. If the motor isn't running when you turn the radio on or off I would guess the whole motor needs to be replaced.
