The problem might be that you refer to it as clunkin. LOL.
As a rule, if you're on original struts after 12 years it is very likely time for a replacement, but it doesn't mean this will fix the clunkin. I'd go to a clunkin mechanic as it's kind of a vague description and hard to tell in a post.
just my humble opinion...

Haha I was just having fun.
As for that noise tho, couldn't it be more than a strut that shifts when you hit a road imperfection? Like a wrench in your glovebox? Does the car stutter and lose traction when it clunks? How is performance affected under normal driving conditions? I don't think the old push on the hood routine is always an answer where shocks/struts are concerned. It might be worth just having it looked at. Did you have the wheels changed recently? Everything fastened down well?
It's just so hard to tell with noises sometimes in a newsgroup posting.

Sorry, I saw you described it further in a seperate post.
I'd still say take it in to a trusted source. If you were able to diagnose it yourself, and had experience with strut removal/replacement, which is no easy task, I'd say go for it.
Tho people here have done it, it's not an easy job by any means.

recently i put the back left to the front left and vise versa and the back right to the front right and vice versa....my back tires had more tread on them.....im most certain I bolted everything down good....I got nothing to rattle inside glove box or door panel....gonna jack up car tomorrow and star at stuff and try to move parts to see if i can't hear some clunkin
Also Im thinking maybe to center bolt on the top of the strut....the bolt that would be in the middle of your front strut bar bracket....im thinking it could be lose because my other one was like that when i bought the car...had my mechanic use an impact wrench and it tightened it up and it went away....so ill see if maybe that is the problem...noise is similar from when i had problem with other strut but its not as loud

I found the problem. The bolt on the top of the strut( would be the bolt in the middle of where the frnt strut bar bracket is) was lose....I turned it probably a turn and a half and then another half turn to tighten it up good...and the clunk clunk is gone
thanks for you guys help with my stupid problems
