How interchangable are 5 spd trannys?

How interchangable are 5 spd trannys?

i have a 92 SE and i need a 5 spd tranny for it im wondering what i can look for to pull one out of. would a 4th gen fit a 3rd gen? would a gxe or gle fit an se? or anything else useful would be good to know ive been looking for one for more than 2 weeks now and i cant find once close enough.

4th gen tranny won't work on any 3rd gens. bolt pattern and starter placement is very different.

a 4th gen tranny wont bolt up but the internals should be the same except for the lsd so what evers wrong with yours you could maybe just swap the internals

your only bet for a tranny is a 89-94 5 speed (unless the 4th gen internals fit like previously mentioned). the 92-94 is better to get as most came with the limited slip. if yours came with limited slip and you were forced to go with non you would most likely need to change the axles and hubs over from a non-lsd 3rd gen.

if its just a bearing problem i'd just get a rebuild kit. they are cheap and pretty easy if you have mechanical skills.
