91 maxima loud engine noise

hi. i just recently bought a 91 maxima se in 5spd w/100k with some problems.
the engine makes a really loud knocking noise at idle and even when revving. actually the noise goes faster as i rev. it sounds like metal slapping against more metal. i was thinking it could be the timing chain but this mechanic told me that the car runs on a belt. second i was thinking maybe a valve but im not sure. im about to get an engine swap but its gonna cost me $$$$$$$$$ so before i resolve to that could anyone out there maybe give me an idea on what else it could be? thank you very much for your response~

if your engine is knocking, it usually happens due to low oil pressure . Once the damage is done there is no quik fix for it except running heavier oil. which doesn't fix it but rather softens the blow between the parts.

all you did was pour in a bottle of synthetic?.....you should do a complete oil change with full synthetic or all synthetic blend........how loud is the tapping sound?

lol if it makes you feel better like you discovered it or something...but I was actually looking for an intelligent answer not some link to some website... all oil stabilizers and cleaners work differently and can be used differently

if YOU want it...YOU find it. i'm not your google here rookie.

directions and what seafoam does it comes straight from the website. i'm not going to sit here and make up some story about it and go get my oil tested for YOUR benefit.

no i'm saying that you didn't know what it is and what does it do. you just took my recommendation from the other thread and put it here.

just like the incorrect info you posted on the other threads. if you don't know...DON'T POST.

It's not dead untill there's a hole in the block. Which could very well happen in the next 5mi-100,000 miles.

A: he's half right, and you need to find another mechanic.
The pistons aren't hitting the head. but the rod bearings are probably shot, yes you can just replace the bearings in most cases and just run it like that.

I suppose he could take the crank out from the bottom and replace the main journal bearings. Not exactly an easy job though.

never said it was. but it should be cheaper.
I do however recommend polishing the crank at the same in order to keep everything nice and clean, not to mention extend durability

your VTCs.
you have a VE30DE motor and a lot of people have problems with their VTCs and they say it sounds like a diesel
