90 max engine rebuild
90 max engine rebuild
i was looking at some of the threads for vg30 rebuild. Internally what besides jim wolfs products can we upgrade, also that would be compatable? My engine is getting high in miles so i want to start finding all the parts im going to need.
Well... if you want to be able to pull some extreme power down the road you can put in the internals from a VG30DETT. The crank is forged and is supposed to be good to 600 hp as are the rods. To make it work though, the crank snout needs to be milled to accept the VG30's oil pump, timing belt gear, and crank pulley. You'll also need to upgrade to a 300zx clutch and flywheel as the flywheel bolt pattern is different (8 bolts compared to our 6).
If you want to go with boost down the road you can use the TT pistons as they are about 8.5:1 compression. They won't handle as much power as the rods and crank as they are cast pistons but will still handle a good amount, more than enough for a Maxima to be very fast. If you have no plans for going turbo I would use the 300zx n/a pistons. They are 10.5:1 compression I believe so they should give a good amount of powre boost over stock due to the nice compression increase. That would probably have some pretty insane throttle response having a nice high compression like that. I bet it could be pretty fun on a road course.

i'm using a leopard starter (vg30det with an auto tranny so probably has the 240 mm based setup similar to the 300zx n/a) on my maxima at the moment. it was all i had laying around when the max's starter went out. i'll be getting a 300zx TT flywheel and clutch pretty soon so I'll compared the flywheels since i have a stock max flywheel laying around as well.
