new car need some advice

Hello I’m new to the maxima world. Got a 90 maxima auto for $500. I got it home after a few jumps. Changed the battery. The engine cranks a while before it starts. When it does starts it idles rough and will die after about min. If I drive the car it seems fine. It is also running really rich. I can feel and smell the gas. So my first guess is spark order. What is the spark order? I tried to pull a plug out but my socket hit the manifold. Is there some kind of trick? Should I use 92 octane w/o ethanol
Thank you.
Alan

ethanol I hear is bad for our injectors...our injectors suck anyways....since it sounds like a starting problem which would be when its cold, we can rule out the o2 sensor. try checking the resitance on the injectors, and since you just bought it..give it a good tune up

sounds to me like your EGR valve is sticking open. unplug the vacuum hose going to it and see if the car idles better. If so, then it's most likely the EGR solenoid that's gone bad..

for fuel, you can use 87 in your car as long as you don't advance the timing any..

Really? Not to hijack the thread, but I had read that we HAD HAD HAD to use the hi-test? My engine is bone stock except for the air filter.

oh hellz no. the VG is designed to run on 87. the VE needs at least 89, but it'll run on 87.
