Fuel Leakage?

Any of you folks in here experience a fuel leakage problem with your 3rd gens? My sister informs me that she just filled the tank for $24.XX and the gauge was at the 3/4 mark in less than 20 miles of driving. I'm curious to see if anyone else has experienced this and what was the fix?

thanks,

nupe

yeah

I've replaced the charcol canister lines, the vent tube looks solid, same with the fill tube. The only thing I haven't replaced yet is the gasket, and I'm not looking forward to that

most 3rd gens leak fuel from the gas filler. i dont know about that much fuel but i know from what i hear and as well myself i leak from the fuel filler. i know nissan has recall for that type of problem. look around i know there are plenty of threads on fuel leakage.

I think it might be the same problem I have, but worse. If I fill my tank up above 3/4 then it smells like gas after I drive. If I fill it more than 7/8, there will be a puddle. If I fill it up all the way, I pray no one is smoking when they walk by my car as I dont have comprehensive .

however if I do fill it all the way up, it normally takes a few days to get back down to the 3/4 mark, so mine isn't as bad as yours.

I hate my big hands, taking the fuel pump out sucks

some of the fuel problem with these cars is not only the area around the fuel filler leaking but also the fuel gauge being off almost as much as 5 gallons. so you should check first to see if you ARE leaking especially when you fill up.

had a similar problem, but couldn't find a leak anywhere. i'll fill up and it'll read F for awhile. 15 or so mins of driving i somehow "lost" a quarter of a tank. it end up being the gas gauge messing up. changed it, and it's working fine since.

interesting thread, my 98 is doing about the same thing. It just started leaking. If i fill my tank to the top it leaks once some pressure has built up, then it runs down my parking brake cable and onto the ground. An easy fix for me is to relieve the pressure (undoing the gas cap) or just not filling the tank all the way. Has anyone dropped their tank?

Dom, No offense meant by the comment....but you make a good point as do the others. I did check again with my sister and she says the gauge has gone up meaning that it could be as you say "gauge related"

Most in here don't remember me but some do...I'm on my 3rd maxima and started with a 91se that my sister now drives. I'll do some more digging...and keep you informed.

BTW, the search engine does work now...try the "Search this forum" link at the top of the page

Many thanks to the new forum operator and the new software update to make this happen!
