front caliper, rear caliper..diff?

I thought the front and rear calipers were the same? I called a parts store and they wanted $60each for pre-loaded in the front=$120
and $100 each for pre-loaded in the rear=$200..
I thought that the models that have disc front and back could interchange calipers? maybe Im wrong, but if not id like to know because Ill just tell them I want 4 front ones then

uhhhhhh, have you even LOOKED at your calipers yet?
fronts weigh about 10lb each. rears are 1/2 the size and weigh about 5lb each..

rears have parking brake built into them. fronts dont.

yeah, they're different.

Why would the frt/rear wear the same when the bias is like 85%-15%??? Rears don't do squat. I had 130k on some stock rears.

I have cleaned them like 10 times because they are always squeaking...so Ive looked at them...I never put them on my scale( in grams anyways) to see the difference in weight, and Im usually stoned when I clean my ****ty brakes so I wouldn't know..

Do me a favor, please stay the hell away from me if you see me on the roads. Look for a lowered biege metallic with cobra wheels and huge BBKs.

I got 166k on stock rears and fronts....and on the rotors too(im sure theyve been resurfaced...once) I think I should probably clean the **** out of the rear calipers, buy new front calipers, and all new discs...think that probably fix my queak squeak problem? my brakes are as clean as they get, I clean them with brake cleaner once a month and this only stops the squeaks for a little bit and not completely

1) So why would ask if they should wear the same?
2) You are NOT correctly preventing brake squeal. Try a search

sorry for such a dumb question, I should pay more attention to exact details when I look at my brakes, considering i work on them so much, so I wouldn't have to ask the professionals here for help

smokey - are your calipers bad? Don't replace 'em if they're not, just clean and grease. Go get yourself a set of genuine Nissan brake pads, put 'em on correctly, the brakes won't squeal anymore. I still use my original calipers at 152K miles and have never turned the discs. I'm on my 4th set of pads and the only time I had squealing from the brakes was when I used cheap Kragen Lifetime pads. Tossed those suckers in the trash, went back to Nissan and am singing a happy tune since.

Please put down the pipe when you're anywhere near your car. driving it or working on it. you're obviously not doing yourself any good.

the problem is with the owner of the car before me....when I bought it the rotors were already tore up...and the brake pads were almost gone...and the front calipers aren't that expensive.....my brakes squeal when i am just driving, not even braking....

Man, I know a few guys who work on cars stoned (professionally mind you) but they can tell just by looking that the front and rear calipers look nothing alike.
your squealing problem is probably because the pads didn't bed right. you should cut the rotors (assuming there's enough meat on them) or just replace them. and stop using the brake cleaner once a month, it removes the friction layer on the rotor (yes I know that isn't the correct term for it)

Yeah I don't know what is causing your squealing, but cleaning it with brake cleaner is not the way to fix it. In fact, this could be making things worse because there are actually parts that are supposed to be greased.

ok do this, it works everytime....
get a wire brush and clean the fawk out of everything
buy some caliper grease or similiar and use it on the parts that move against each other (just use common sense)

that said, dont fawking work on your car high/drunk/under the influence of whatever, hell even if your tired. Dont fawking drive on the same roads as Jeff, myself, our families, our friends, their families, and everyone else. cripes.

all of a sudden I dont feel so safe driving..... and I do alot of driving.

Not sure whether that came from Fark or not. Offtopic.com uses that all the time too and I know Pervis is on there. Dunno which site had it first though

Yeah, I was going from my point of reference - didn't realize Offtopic used it, too (I'm not even trying to claim Fark used it "first," just that they used it).

Well, fark me - this should be in an offtopic thread, I suppose.

Hey, quick question. how do I change the rear pads? just undo the two bolts on caliper and take off and replace the old pads with new ones? I accidently bought rear pads before, what are the springs for? quick response is much apreicated..

to replace the rears, just undo the lower bolts and swing the whole caliper up and you can get the pads out, put new ones in and then you'll have to retract the piston. It needs to be screwed in (rather than just pushing it in like you can on the fronts). You can buy a special tool from pepboys to make it a lot easier (I have a little cube thing that has two bumps on it and it fits onto a standard 3/8" ratchet). Search google for more info. They are pretty similar to a lot of other nissan or other import cars so most of the info you find will be pretty universal.

you dont need to bleed it if you're just replacing the pads
only time you need to bleed is if you're gonna take off a caliper completely or something like that

just break in the brake pads after you get them on
5 or so moderate stops at 30 and then 5-10 more at 40mph and that should be good
