steering rack woes

ok, maybe the title was overdoing it a bit. actually, the steering rack replacement ive had to do has been pretty painless, however... im trying to get the input shaft into the steering link(i believe thats what its called) and its managed to stop with about 1/4 of an inch left to go and wont budge. after about 30 minutes of me turning the wheel back and forth and my uncle attempting to bang it in with a crescent wrench/hammer combination we just gave up on it for the day. has anyone here had this problem when replacing the rack, and if so what was the solution?

i had the same problem when replacing my rack.
You just got to bang the $hit out of that thing with a rubber malot or use a big flat head and a hammer.

PS. Make sure you got it allined where it use to be before you took it off.
