trans

Alright, for the past two days or so my car would not go into 1st, 2nd or reverse . Now i got it into reverse and a friend of mine got it into 1st and 2nd, but the it kinda ceased up again. So basically im gonna have to get a new tranny. Does anyone have a rough estimate of how much one with cost, and if they sell them at the nissan dealerships. thanks

interseting, my names nick and also own a 93 se 5speed however whats happened most likely to your car is the metal sleaves inside the tranny are worn to crap and the shift linkage is getting caught. I had the same problem, mine got caught in reverse and took a bit o' convincin to get it out. cost from lee myles 1900. The tranny had to be sent out to a specialist in NYC to be rebuilt. your welcome

I bought one from a 92 SE with 72K miles for $580 including tax. My other tranny still runs but the differential gear bearing needs replacement (made a wuh-wuh sound that drove me crazy). Usually the dealerships send them to a tranny shop and probably charge you a premium. You should take it to a couple of places first and shop around.

does the car go into all the gears fine with the engine off

if it does it could be your clutch or posibly the master/slave cylinders

one thing to check is if your low on clutch fluid

other thing to do is check to see if your slave cylinder is moving when you push the clutch pedal in

also see if your low on trans fluid

no it does the same thing with the car off.
I also checked the clutch, even though it smelled horribly because i basically had to start out in third the whole time it is working, might see if that is the problem though.
As for clutch fluid, it is in between min and max so that is fine
