Whats The Best Intake

What do you think is better for a '93 SE??? Place Racing CAI, JWT Popcharger, or the Stillen Intake?

well the best intake is the one you can afford .

I like how Jeff makes one that goes behind the headlight.

I bought a cheap one off of ebay that is basically the same as PRI but is aluminum instead of steel. I think I paid less than $50 shipped for it. You can see it on my site.

i personally think the turbocharger intake setup is one of the best...

seriously though, i'd support an org member and buy one off of Jeff if he is selling them.

jwt pop charger is too expensive for what you get and stillen usually charges out the *** so i wouldn't go with either of those. place racing should be pretty good if you want to go that route.

depends. if it's just a regular cone intake with a MAF adapter then yes it'll fit. but if it's a CAI, then it won't. there are different bends in the pipe for the VE and VG engines.

Jeff92se's CAI: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=312849

I like how it requires less cutting and places the cone filter in a much better place than with normal CAIs which go through the fender. I probably would have bought this instead of a (used) JWT popcharger if it had existed back then.

Popcharger Intake?

I know that these popcharger setups from Stillen & JWT give you a few horsepower & a mean growl, But seeing as how they sit open in the engine compartment they are exposed to all the engine heat, therefore as soon as the car heats up it should actually lose some horsepower due to hotter air going in the combustion chamber. Just wanted to see what you guys thought, or if you 've had experience with them? Some input please THANX

i will *speculate* that because the pop charger is a direct, straight, unobstructed pipe, it will allow air to pass more efficiently into the intake manifold, regardless of the heat issue. therefore, more air will get in quickly, even if it is warm; perhaps the pop opening is remote enough from the exhaust manifolds to get some ambient outside air coming in from the grille.

but forget it anyway. get a CAI. save another few bucks and start right. run it to the fender well.

Most of us end up making the pop charger, or HAI (hot air intake), as our first mod (after a FSTB, of course) because it's cheap & it's gives the engine a bit more growl.

If you're looking for performance, everyone will tell you to go CAI & it's true (esp since you drive a VE & I believe the CAI is available on eBay for you guys at ~$60-$80).

If you're looking for a cheapo mod that, to my knowledge, hasn't caused any harm yet, go for the pop setup. Some say you lose minor low end torque while gaining a bit of top end, but don't count it for anything more than 1-2 hp. Maybe a bit more on the butt dyno , but if you go this route, do it mostly for the sound

A long time ago in a galaxy far away, I tried a K&N panel. It actually worked when it was VERY new or VERY clean. Once it was used for a bit(ie.. 1 week), the improvement went away. This was on a stock non-hacked airbox. If you hack you airbox, you lose all the benefits that the stock air horns give you anyway. You still have to use the stock sized panel filter and now you are getting air from the engine compartment.

Several guys here have similar intakes, that one should be fine.

The only thing I would be worried about is a crappy filter.

I believe that is the same kit as michaels. He just said its made of aluminum instead of steel. Like Randy said, I would be weary of the filter.

Yeah it can happen but as long as you stay out of big puddles (and it would have to be a big one) then you should be ok.

That is indeed the same intake I have. I got it from a different supplier though. A friend of mine made a template for it and I have it posted on my site. the link is in my sig.
