help changing stock disc brakes

hey everyone...my front disc brake pads need to be changed (i'd say within a week). do I need any special tools to change the pads myself? am i going to have to bleed the brake system if i change the pads?

i've been looking online at Autozone's vehicle repair guide (http://www1.autozone.com/servlet/UiB...3d801f5965.jsp) and it seems pretty straight-forward. any suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

Um yes? That is the correct page. I commend you for actually using this resource. Most members with 10x your post count seem to not to know how.

It should take about 30minutes to change them. I'm about to do my fronts since they have about 10% life. The rears have about 80% left

Tips? Don't play marbles on the freeway?? Just follow the instructions in the link you provided. For a the basic brake pad/rotor swap, it's complete.

Yes I do change my own brakes. Since I routinely change whole engines, brakes aren't really a problem.

Takes me a good hour or so. But then again, I just don't slap new pads in and call it a day. I clean all the sliding assemblies, Lubricate the slide points, inspect the CVs, suspension, check for oil leaks etc....

thanks for all the info guys...one last question: what should i be looking for when i check to make sure the bearings and other parts of my brakes are ok and do not need to be replaced? or should i just use my common sense and if something looks wrong, it probably is!?!?!!

Do you have a grumbling or any other whining noises while driving? If not, your wheel bearings are probably okay. But it doesn't hurt to take a look. But doing brakes won't really allow you so see the bearings in the front. You would have to pull off the spindles. Same with the rears. In order to see the bearings, you would have to unscrew the big nut to take off the rotor and hub assembly.
