Your car is defective, sell it and get another one.

most likely the switch is bad if it goes one way but not the other. Take the switch out and use a pair of jumpers from the hot to the "open" part of the switch if the roof slides back then you need a new switch and i think i saw one on ebay a day or so ago....

Also check to see if the sunroof is binding with the visor(cover) it has metal strips that run on rails. They could be broke and getting in the way.

it doesnt have a visor anymore. i took it out because the metal strips were broken. that wasnt cause any problem with the sunroof opening.

Will it tilt up but not slide? If that is the case there is a clip that is broken that is suppose to release the lock mechanism to allow it to slide back. The replacement is $300-$400. Otherwise you can take the plastic covers off and release it by hand like I do.

Mine will tilt, but not slide back. Can you get the mechanism off of a used Maxima. & What does it look like. I might go to a local garage (auto salvage) and see if they have one.
