Launching
Whats the best way to launch our 3rd Gens, specifically a VG?
April 20th is opening day at the track in Nebraska. Me any my friends are going up there. I have no doubt that there will be tons of cars up there. Im PROBABLY taking my Max up there, exhaust leak and all. If I do run, Ill post my times, of course.

Not trying to be a smartass, but I would imagine your launch is specific to your car. I would just experiment with either a: seat of your pants feel or b: friend a stopwatch and see what works best for you.
i belive the best way is diffrent but easy to catch on

Im not sure if your model is equiped with the power comfort switch but if it is put it off(in the middle) and drive in first gear and when shifting you want to feel when first gear is giving you less than 2nd gear, anotherwords feel as you shift and max the gear so you can feel when it really stops being productive and shift 200 rpms before this point, also if so equiped with the comfort power switch, put it into power after you switch into 2nd gear because our maximas have horrable low end power especially when the power switch is on but it kicks in after first shift, good luck i hope this was helpfull
The Power comfort switch does nothing but raise the shift points about 500 rpm's and how quick the transmission shifts. When you floor it, more than 70% throttle I think, the transmission wil automaticly switch to power. BTW it is only on the auto's.
power = shifts at higher points for more agressive sport feel
comfort = shifts lower so that, well, it will be more comfortable, duh
seeing that you do have p/c switch i am assuming you are an auto
on the go racing, leave over drive on so that its in a higher gear therefore making your rpms low and when you mash the gas it will downshift making your rpms higher and increasing your speed faster or you can just drop it into 2nd but overdrive is better for the tranmission
at a dead stop racing, turn off over drive, put it in 1st, before the light hits green, brake torque to 1.5 to 2 k rpms (i would not recommend doing this unless you have a tranmission cooler), when the light does hit green and you mash the gas, just before it redlines put her in 2nd then when its about to redline again but her back into drive
alot of info but all info i have gathered from other automatic racers and from my own personal experiences

Thanks for all your help on the auto tranny.
What kind of numbers have stock VG/5speed cars put up? Im hoping to hit 16.5.
Ill take all the normal stuff out of her before I go (spare tire, tools, etc).

16.5 sounds about right......and guys be careful what you say about the power/comfort switch thingy. i got severely flamed a while back for saying that it shifts faster etc. lol.
Good luck launching... I had a lot of problems getting mine to launch well. My best run last time I had a 2.5 60' BTW I want to know whats the best air pressure for street radials on a drag strip??... Last time I put it to about 22lbs, but I was still spinning like crazy. I would say rev it to 2250 and as you release the clutch don't let it get below 2000 and hopefully you won't spin....
In my case, it varies with what I am racing against and the conditions of the surface. When I beat a new Monte Carlo, I was only feeding the Maxima 50% throttle at the start (this was due to the ground being damp) and then smoked him when I floored it (because I had it around 2500-3000 RPM already).
But technically, everyone is correct. Even professional drag racers have to adapt to track conditions and get a feel how their car is going to run on that track.
