Daytime Running Lights
how about using a reduced-power of the high beams? isn't there some sort of relay that i could just drop in the relay boxes to make it work? if there isn't i'll just see if i can splice the power wire... any suggestions where to tap it from?
just find information on the GM ones. There is bound to be some kind of relay that they use for this. Call a GM dealer and ask the service guy. If the cost is high at the dealer, maybe ask to look at the relay and where it is located. Then go to a bone yard and find the part for your car.
IIRC, some cars have auto headlights, which will come on at dark. I think I rented a Corolla with this feature. Maybe you want that, too?

All Canadian Max's have DRL's. Look in the FSM and see if it says anything about it. If it does, and it's a module you need, I'll give you one from my silver car - nc (shipping tho).
If you want your lights to be a little fancier like the GM ones (twilight sentinel) then I would suggest a little research on a GM forum (Caddy is probably your best bet cause the older guys are die-hards and they know their cars well), or go to the wreckers and start poking around.

your talking about a photocell you probably could recess it into the top part of the dash and wire it to the lights switch via relay...then at dusk the headlights would come on however you will probably need one with a time delay so bright lights dont turn your headlights off....
I don't know where it is off hand, but I could check the FSM and Haynes manual for it's location (later)? I know there's a sun sensor on the top right of the dash, at the end of the defrost vent, but I think that's for the climate control. So I would assume there's a relay or somthin under the dash near the fuse panel.
Aggressor: You want it, and we can find it, you can have it.

I'm sure the DRL is similar to GM & Volvo in that they operate when car running, they don't come on with low light levels (4th gen Japanese Max's - Cefiro's - have that function). The DRL is largely Canadian only - must be a Federal Law. The wiring diagram is in the Haynes Manual.
Ahh, but I know where it is!

It's under the steering column behind the plastic molding - just above your shins when you are driving.
If you have a Canadian vehicle, you should have DRLs. However, the relays and some of the transistors in the DRL unit degrade after time, and the DRLs stop working. $180CDN gets you a new DRL unit from Nissan.

Depending on how much effort & expense it'll be, sometimes the insurance discount will really result in a (bi)annual savings. When I helped my girlfriend buy a Rav4 earlier this year, the DRLs only ran ~$38 more & she gets a $30 discount on her insurance every 6 months. It's not much, but that's a recurring discount.
The idea I had in mind was to install angel eyes on my E36s (if I ever get around to it) & have those on the entire time. I doubt they would be considered DRLs though.
