There is this slight grounding under my feet whenever i drive hard or the car just starts to drive. I Found this kinda weird being that I have a new tranny and a new engine. They dont give me any trouble really... I was wondering if anyone can maybe help me out wiht this. Could it be the catback? If so then maybe i shoudl get this deal that a guy offered me for a 3 1/2 inch pipe from the engine with performance muffler for 220. is that good...i thought it was a little pricey...

The first that came to mind is blown motor mounts. Bad mounts lets the engine rock back when you accelerate. The Y-Pipe will actually hit your front sway bar.

Get a helper to put the car in drive, press the brake to the floor, and pop the gas. While they are doing this, get a safe distance away and look under the car. You will be able to see if it happens.

Sounds like a mount. I just replaced my front one yesterday. To my surprise it was much easier than I thought and only took about 20 mins.

Yeah, the front one on the VG is cake....the rear one not so much.

Is there an easier way of doing this. Dont really trust someone doing that.... CAnt i just pu *** on a lift and look at the mounts? Where is it loacted under the car or in the engine bay?

The front one is easy to see. Basically straight down and a little to the left directly behind the radiator. Unfortunately you can't always tell from looking at it from that angle if it's bad or not. That's why Pervis was suggesting what he said. You can do almost as good by raising the hood, and looking thru the opening at the back of the hood while you put it in gear (foot on the brake). If you see excessive engine movement, then they might be bad.

But, since you just got a new tranny and engine, you'd think someone would notice if the mounts were bad.

Noises are hard to diagnose without being there..

If you are feeling brave and or stupid, you can do all this yourself. I just leaned out of the car and looked under it.

Nope. Open driver side door. Sit in the driver's seat. Press the brake. Pull the e-brake. Put it in drive. Lean out of the car and look under it. Support yourself with your left hand. Press the gas.

ahhh. i forgot about the e-brake. I was thinking that you put right foot on gas, left foot on brake, and held your self up with the hanlde thingy with both hands, and stuck your head out the window...lol

Why not just lift the freakin hood open and support it with something if your hood struts are broken. Put your car in gear, press the brakes hard, then rev the engine. If it is a frount mount you WILL see the engine rise to where the hood normally is. It's not hard to see a big silver block rise up about 2-3 inches.

I guess my car might have the same problem.. My car has only 88K miles and it is 93 Maxima SE..

Any indication as to when mount on its last breath,,,

I believe there are four motor mounts. But I found only one in online stores. Left rear(firewall side) $83 Only this one goes bad or what

Any advantage in going for stock Mounts ?

How much might independent local repair shops might charge for mount replacement..?
